    [Retired] The LCD Thread

Warning! I ordered the Dell U2410 model based on the list. While the colors were good, the text is grainy (anti-glare coating is coarse, dithering is also a problem). Read about it in other forums as well as on Dell's before purchasing. I don't know how the U2410 made its way to the #1 panel...

    GA-P35-DS4 2.0 | Abit IP35-Pro

One more con for the DS4, there are no manual fan speed settings in the BIOS. Software utility must be installed to control fan speed. The DS4 also has less fan headers.

    E6600 or 6750?

I agree here. My e4400 @ 3.0Ghz in real world applications and use does not feel any slower than my q6600 @ 3.2Ghz. The moral of the story, assuming you will overclock, is $250 (e4400 + decent MB) gives you about same performance as $500 (q6600 + enthusiast board). I have no experience with the...

    GA-P35-DS4 2.0 | Abit IP35-Pro

I upgraded one of my computers from Abit IP35-Pro + e4400 to Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 2.0 + Q6600 primarily because I needed another machine not because I thought I would get more performance from Q6600. First the motherboards. The layout of the Abit IP35-Pro is better for cable management. With...

What gadgets are you using in Vista?

none. i find it to be a waste of space like OSX panels. if you want hardware monitoring, get Everest. everest can display info in the sidebar but the little icons in the taskbar so much cleaner.

    aargh, Vista activation

Well I put in a lot effort to use CentOS 5 linux which is really Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I decided it's not for me. I was able to get all my hardware recognized but for whatever reason I cannot get it to use 1680x1050 resolution. I spent hours copying/editing xorg.conf (Xwindow configuration)...

Huh? You do know there are different levels of subscription. I forget which version we have, we're a partner, but we are allowed 10 licenses so it is NOT SINGLE USER license. I don't know where you are going with that that you had to shout it out. The POINT IS I am not the contact and I've been...

    aargh, Vista activation

I have screenshot utils, benchmarking utils, mail, etc in my already installed Vista. Are you saying I should install a test Vista everytime I want to upgrade my computer? That's just a waste of time. And what if you only have one drive, can you even install two Vistas on the same drive?

    aargh, Vista activation

It should not be a problem getting Vista reactivated, unfortunately I'm not the gatekeeper of our MSDN subscription so I have to ask our network admin to contact MS and reactivate. My point more than anything is you have to reactivate if you do something as simple as changing out the...

    aargh, Vista activation

i was stupid i should not have reactivated until i was completely done. i didn't think about the ramifications. it just said you need to reactivate and i figured it was harmless since it's a legit license. nothing is that simple i guess. anyway, i'm looking at CentOS 5 64-bit which is based of...

    IP35 Pro ABIT IS BACK!

About the same as my 3.3Ghz configuration (4-4-4-12 DDR-944). I noticed I get better performance with higher FSB, that's why I chose 7x for my configuration. http://img171.imageshack.us/my...?image=snag0021ha9.jpg Here you go. Look at the timings on these bad boys...

    aargh, Vista activation

You know I didn't think about that. I should have installed a copy of Vista x64 in trial mode but I had all my screenshot tools and benchmarking tools on my vista installation. Still, if there is a light 64-bit linux with a basic window manager that lets me run VMWare I'll be happier. I'm not...

    aargh, Vista activation

I recently bought an Abit IP35-Pro board so I've been testing it with different configurations, for example 4x1GB versus 2x2GB. Different video cards 7600 GT vs X1950XT. Yes these are all things I have so I try different configurations. I've had to reactive no less than three times. So now that...

    IP35 Pro ABIT IS BACK!

almost everybody is getting better overclocks than me using Abit IP35 boards. it makes me wonder if proper stability tests are being run. i booted into vista x64 at 3.8 Ghz but there is no way i would claim i'm running at 3.8. i wonder cuz everyone is besting me using budget ram, lower voltages...
