Any air movement in the area is detrimental to thermal conduction if the thermistor and cpu are not in direct contact. The underside of the cpu is in no way sealed to prevent air movement. There is at least some air movement. I may not know electronics, but I sure do know thermodynamics and...
I found a strange thing going on. McAfee AV was invoking a executable alogserv.exe that was taking 100% kernel processor time. I uninstalled McAfee and now I'm running at <90°F. So at full processor usage I was just under 120°F. This is much better.
InWin makes some good cases too. www.in-win.com
I have the A500 model that my KT7-Raid is in. These are built very ridgid with 1.0 mm sheet metal and edges folded over so you won't get cut up. Most other brands use only 0.8 mm sheet metal.
ANY gap will cause inaccurate readings. A couple of millimeters is way too far. With the fan blowing around the area any gap will allow cooling between the thermistor and the cpu. Simple thermodynamics. I choose to apply thermal compound too.
Also, if you press the cpu down without first...
I have a problem report or whatever Creative calls it in their system for this but haven't been called back. I've used W98, W2K, and WME. WME is the only one that has this particular problem. I'm pretty sure it is an incompatibility thing between SBL and WME.
I'm not yet overclocking my system, but it appears to be running hotter than most other people posting. The Bios reports 117°F, Sandra reports 113°F, and VIA Hardware Manager is reporting 118°F. My processor was a boxed unit from AMD with heat sink and fan, so I have no idea what brand the fan...
Everything is connected correctly, set to 2 speakers, wave and master volume are set to almost the maximum setting. I'm using the latest SBLive drivers for WME too. I think this has something to do with WME and SBLive, not a factor of the mainboard. When booting to W98, the volume level only...
I have the volume turned all the way up with Windows ME and can barely hear anything. When booting to 98 the volume works fine and only has to be at a mid level setting. Anyone have a similar problem or know how to correct this?
I can't get mine to post for some reason. This is not a new card and it was working hours before the change over from my old motherboard. Any suggestions or has anyone heard of an incompatibility issue?
