I have a Sony E400 and (for the money) I swear by it.
I run it at 1280x1024 @ 85hz and also tried it at 1600x1200 @ 72hz and the picture quality is great.
If you can't afford a G420 opt for the E400.

It's actually one desktop (since I can drag windows from one to another) although the taskbar only shows up on the monitor and does not expand on the tv screen.
I think there's a checkbox in the nView settings (or the nView Wizzard I'm not sure) where you treat the two monitors...
