Redistributing HDD between servers + new SSD

Thanks for the input. The velociraptor is about 5 years old so it probably wouldn't be suitable for files then. I'd probably need to purchase an extra drive for files (or not do a raid-1 for our mailserver). As for the WD IDE HDD, would using them as extra SWAP be an intelligent solution ...

Redistributing HDD between servers + new SSD

Hi I'm upgrading a few servers at our office (family business with 17 employees) and I'd like some opinions on the best use of our HDD and SSD. Three servers are in play here : 1) Our file and ordering application server (windows 2k3 - 3 users work in TS + 1 local user) 2) Our...

Memory issue with new gigabyte board

This system is proving to be nothing but a headache. On Friday, setting the system to ganged mode solved the problem. However when I tried to open it today, it wouldn't boot again. So I removed all sticks in dual channel mode which has allowed me to boot in the past but the system was now...

Memory issue with new gigabyte board

Important Edit : Problem has morphed. Please read my first post on Sunday to know more. Any help welcome. Hi I'm having issues with a new board I purchased. It's a Gigabyte MA770-UD3 paired with a Phenom X4 955. However, the system won't boot when there's memory in the 2nd DDR slot...

Windows 7 mobo change - repair option not available ?

I already unsuccesfully ran that tool. Win 7 is awesome but I prefered XP's repair options in light of this. Probably the only thing I liked better in XP over 7 actually. Unless there's no other option, it looks like I'll have to put the drive back in its old system to transfer the data...

Windows 7 mobo change - repair option not available ?

Hey I just changed my old system (pentium e5200) to a new one (phenom x4 960). Obviously this requires a new motherboard as well. However, I forgot to transfer my evolution e-mail data on my D drive before the switch and I'd like to boot into Windows to export it before doing a clean...

Wireless and mouse combo - strong enough to go through walls

Thanks for the feedback. I had thought about getting the extension through the wall already but I'd rather avoid having usb receivers protuding through the wall right next to my fireplace for aesthetic reasons. If that's the only route I can take, I'd probably run them at ground level as I...

Wireless and mouse combo - strong enough to go through walls

Hey all I'm going to be buying a 52" LCD TV shortly and will hang it up top my fireplace. I currently use my smaller LCD as my computer monitor and the new big size screen is also going to be my monitor (one of the reasons I'm getting LCD vs plasma). My computer is next to my table stand...

Would like second opinion : single or dual core ?

Newegg.ca is brand new so I don't think about looking at it yet. Newegg has a x2 3800+ at 38$ and has a OCZ Vista upgrade kit 2 x 1 gigs for 33$ but has 14$ shipping. That's a 20$ difference than the Sempron + similar OCZ memory from directcanada. I think that just solved my dilema...

Would like second opinion : single or dual core ?

Thanks. My main concern is especially that I don't want to get cornered into having to change workstation because even basic apps start requiring multiple cores 2-3 years from now (or if not required, seriously degraded performance - we all know how software writers can get lazy when we start...

Would like second opinion : single or dual core ?

The two processors I'm looking at are these two : Sempron LE-1200 (2,1 GHZ) for 30$ X2 5000 (2,6 GHZ)+ for 70$ The closest dual-core Intel equivalent (meaning no celerons if I compare it to the X2) is 75$ which is all right but intel mobos are generally more expensive so its not an...

Would like second opinion : single or dual core ?

Hey guys I'd like a second opinion on this one. I manage computers at my job. We're a small business and we're currently using 3 workstations and a server (plus about 10 laptops). 2 of the workstations are old. I mean really old. Duron 1000 old. They're starting to show signs of...
