I know how I could test which cores are paired on the Core i7 (set affinity to each core and see which core heats up), but does anyone have a decisive list of which core is physical and which is virtual?
example:
Phys:Virt
0:1
2:3
etc
I was going to say something along the same line as this, to the effect of why does anyone really care about the i7's gaming performance and for anyone to complain about it means there misguided or misinformed, but your analogy is absolutely the most beautiful thing I've seen in awhile...
Is anyone other than just myself happy someone really just straight up catered to enthusiast computer users by (essentially) giving us our own socket and chipset without it being too ridiculous of a premium? And on top of that, it's a top performer and (what looks like) a long line of upgrades...
I wouldn't call myself primarily a gamer, I'd probably refer to myself as a high-end computer enthusiast. I game, I browse the internet, I do xvid encoding, I do virtualization. There's a lot a do but I wouldn't go so far as to say I do one thing specifically, so I need a CPU (and a platform)...
I upgraded from a AMD Athlon64 X2 4600+ (original CPU was a 3500+ single core), 7800 GS (the last of the AGP cards, it replaced a 9800Pro about 2 years ago), and 2GB of OCZ DDR ram on a MSI K8N Neo2 Plat mobo.
To say I noticed a difference going to a i7 920, 6GB of Memory, ATI HD Rad 4850 is...
i did clean it away, and the 4 bolts are secure enough in there that i could pull on them entirely to try to pick up the mobo without them coming out, so i think i was successful. i hope i put enough thermal paste on without putting too much.
i think i will try that vcore adjustment...
i have an interesting experience with cooling myself.
mind you, of all the hundreds of computers i've toiled with or made, i'll be honest and admit this is the first setup with a core cpu (i got the core i7 920). i did my best to install the cooler correctly, i felt i accomplished this, and i...
lol, wow, my sig is old (and gone now). yeah, thats my big question. I'm buying a nehalem setup tomorrow and the question is if its even possible to do this.
Do you think its possible (and feasible) to buy 2 pairs of dual channel memory (specifically the ones im looking at are ocz platinum ddr1333 7-7-7-20 timings 1.8v) and run them well in a setup and expect them to work (compared to ocz gold ddr1333 triple channel kit 9-9-9-20 timings 1.65v). the...

So I just got back from Quakecon to discover there's a scratch on the "protective" plastic on my Dell FPW2005 (1680x1050). So I need a new monitor, and I need your help.
What my new monitor must have:
true 8-bit color (absolutely not 6-bit+Hi-FRC)
widescreen
low latency (but most do to my...
