    Athlon XP 1600+ (1.4GHz) ----> Duron 1.8GHz

    I agree, if you're going to get new memory, processor and m/b then it doesn't make sense to stick with socket A.

    higher fsb or multiplier?

    I would go with the highest FSB that can still allow you to run synchronously with the RAM, then up the multiplier from there to max out the CPU clock speed.

    Need some suggestions..

    Probably pretty much what's available at this point will drive your choice. Even a former 'top of the line' socket A m/b may be a 'bargain' at this point. I recall ASUS made a VM version of their nForce2 m/b, which had integrated video.

    PPGA Socket 370 Upgrade

    Actually the Coppermines also went to 133MHz FSB. The Tualatins represented a die shrink, and lower voltages and slightly higher clock speeds. There was also a 'server' version with 512KB L2 cache. In any case, I agree with previous comments - not worth the time / money to try to upgrade...

    Athlon XP 1600+ (1.4GHz) ----> Duron 1.8GHz

    Pretty much agree with previous comments - if you're not looking for a better OC, (i.e. running at stock speeds), no point in the proposed upgrade.

    is onboard vga always bad regardless?

    Just to add my 2 cents, based on my personal experience with using integrated on an MSI K7N2G-L (nForce2) I would say there are exceptions to the 'integrated sux' theory, and nForce2 is such an exception. The fact is that there's no much use for the additional memory bandwidth of dual channel...

    Best 266MHz FSB Processor to OC to 333MHz FSB

    Thanks for all the help. Yes, I realize there's no 'guarantee', but it sounds like the Thorton XP2200 is my best bet from what you're saying.

    Best 266MHz FSB Processor to OC to 333MHz FSB

    M/b is in the original post, K7N2G-L. Since it's nForce2 it has the PCI lock, so that's not an issue. But it's not a 'sure' thing that it will be stable at 2.25GHz, is it?

    Best 266MHz FSB Processor to OC to 333MHz FSB

    Thanks for your replies guys. I don't have much doubt that the Thorton can do 333MHz FSB. My main concern is with the resulting clock speed if the multiplier is locked. The XP2200 Thorton will be doing 2.25GHz rather than the rated 1.8GHz. Also, although I had heard that the Bartons are now...

    Best 266MHz FSB Processor to OC to 333MHz FSB

    Thanks for your reply. Would the Tbreds also be completely locked? In this case I was actually more interested in possibly lowering the multiplier (if necessary) to make sure it's stable at 333MHz FSB. I was particularly concerned with the Thorton that, with it being multiplier locked, it...

    Best 266MHz FSB Processor to OC to 333MHz FSB

    Best 266MHz FSB Processor to OC to 333MHz FSB Hi All, This is the deal. I'm currently running an XP1700 Tbred on a K7N2G-L m/b with PC2700 DDR. I had hoped to OC it to 333MHz FSB, but it turned out to be an 'A' rather than a 'B' Anyway, I'm looking at a CPU upgrade in the near future. Given...

    Intel MoBo Opinions

    If you're not going to OC, and your priorities are as stated then an Intel m/b should be a good choice IF you've already decided on an Intel processor.

    XP or A64?

    The main 'risk' with AMD's 64bit processors right now is that they'll changed the socket and you'll be left with no future upgrade path. A good socket A rig should last you at least 1 yr., but it won't be as much fun as the 64bit. So the question is, do you want something that just going to...

    Install Modem on Old Compaq Desktop

    As it turns out I just had to configure the jumpers on the modem itself to 'PnP', and Windows 95 autodetected it right away. Now I just have to configure it so that it runs faster (doesn't seem much better than the 33.6 external modem it replaced - any suggestions?). Thanks all for your replies.

    Best computer under $500?

    I would base it on an nForce2 m/b with integrated video (plus sound and LAN of course). Get a couple sticks of PC2700 so you can run dual channel and the fastest Tbred you can afford (if a Barton doesn't fit the budget). That should be plenty powerful enough for what you need, and it even has...
