The SBLive! series can't do Dolby Digital 5.1 by itself, infact you need the Encore DVD hardware decoder to get it. Anything else is emulated! :P
Going from a set of Typhoon 25w crap speakers to a set of DTT-2500 was quite a blow for me. :) i could of gone for the Klipsch setup, but judging from my experience with these speakers, i think i would piss off the entire village with em! :D Besides i thought i heard the 2500's apparently beat...
The volume control in windoze alters the soundcards own diddy "amp" type thing, otherwise you wouldn't hear anything if you plug in headphones. :P
Soundfonts are for apps like Cakewalk so that you aren't limited to samples, and can have much more structured m00sic. :D No doubt alot of the games music is done using Gigasampler with instrument banks coming in at $100 or so a pop!

If you use Audio Compositor, you can render your soundfonted midi's channel by channel into wav files, and then import them into a mixer for mp3 encoding. :)
Organisations on the whole couldn't really care less about AMD it seems. Like at my college for example, they recently got a suite of P3-733's installed when they could of had T-Bird 750 for a better price. And they had those crap MS laser-ass-optical-mice :P
Go here for the page to get a new Opengl driver with muchos better performance than D3D, and it has S3TC support so you no longer have to use that second cd as a frisbee. :)
