IE, especially IE6, has had problems with standards compatibility. Especially HTML 4 and CSS3 (cascading style sheets). That was mostly because those standards did no exist when IE6 came out.

A few years ago there were a lot of capacitor failures in Samsung and other monitors and TVs.

The right way to look at it is to ask how much gasoline tax you pay when you drive your hummer your usual 12,000 miles per year. Probably a lot more in tax than the Prius owner who drives 12,000 miles per year.
