    Raspberry Pi Bandwagon

It's always been odd to me the amount of conflicting information I get over blu-ray rips. Half of people say they play fine, half don't. The real question for me is whether it can play H.264, VC1, and MPEG2 (assuming you've paid for the licenses) at blu-ray bit-rates, i.e., ripped directly from...

    27 inch 1080p

I personally can't stand using the original iPad and iPad mini because the pixel density is so low, and my laptop is a 15" Macbook Pro w/ Retina. However, my daily driver desktop monitor for the longest time was a 120 Hz 27" 1080p monitor, and I loved it! Go figure. Something about viewing the...

120Hz Monitor LIST -- Includes LightBoost, G-SYNC, Overclockable, etc.

It's such an interesting phenomenon. Before I went to 120 Hz, I never thought "man, this 60 Hz is really choppy". Now that I have a 120 Hz display though, 60 Hz looks terrible in comparison. Similarly, I just went from a non-strobbing (Acer HN274H) to a strobbing 120 Hz monitor (Eizo FG2421)...

What NAS drive to run Plex smoothly 1080p + 5.1?

*Sigh* I don't know what to say. I didn't test it extensively, and like I said I was transcoding to various qualities, some probably SD, but it worked smoothly without any stuttering. I was just doing a quick stress test. In the real world I would never need to transcode four movies at a time...

What NAS drive to run Plex smoothly 1080p + 5.1?

All were straight blu-ray rips (remuxed into mkv's using makemkv) that were then transcoded (not just remuxed) on the fly into various qualities on phone, tablet, and two web browsers.

What NAS drive to run Plex smoothly 1080p + 5.1?

Just FYI, an Intel 2500k can easily transcode 1080p in real time. I built a Plex server with an Intel i5-3570k (which is only slightly faster) and I was able to transcode 4 blu-ray rips in real time with no frame drops. The problem with transcoding arises when you want to fast forward and...

Streaming my media over the web?

This is what I used when I ran Plex Media Server on my WHS 2011 machine. Worked perfectly.

What is the best HTPC software?

I disagree. Aeon is gaudy and headache inducing. IMO, the best skin is Quartz. Simple, beautiful, and functional. I wish there were more 'clean' skins like Quartz for XBMC. Just my 2 cents :P

What is the best HTPC software?

Another great option is Jriver Media Center. It definitely tailors to video audiophiles with sophisticated playback features like madVR and reClock. This stuff can be done via MPC-HC, but with Jriver it's all built into the front end and easy to configure. Honestly, the feature set of Jriver...
