275HX performs more or less like a 9955HX non-3D and has a better battery life / less consumption when idle (due to the I/O die and packaging stuff of FIre Range not being strictly optimized for the mobile ). Power consumption under load is similar. Fire Range is a dedicated gaming chip...
About this, I have to contradict you. The problem with laptops is the fact you'll need to change the entire system while DIY users in need can upgrade some parts*. But, if you consider two completely new systems, the prices for laptops are not so different. I.e. for a similar configured desktop...
But when the noise starts, you'll need the headphones for sure.
Also, desktops will be faster and they give options to get the fastest GPUs and CPUs.
But, if you need to game on the couch, like me, these are the only option (and I am satisfied with it).
OK, I got my Tongfang Aistone X6FR558Y, which is known more as the XMG Neo 16 AMD model, or, like in my case, PC Specialist Recoil 16 AMD. I configured it with the RTX 5080 mobile with 16 Gbytes of GDDR7 and 64 GBytes of RAM. As with all the laptops, there is a strong influence of the device...
Yes and no, the problem here is not the small difference by itself, but the fact that the RTX5090 mobile has a power limit of 175W but in many games it does not reach that consumption, thus lowering the performance compared to what it should be. On the opposite side, the 4090 hits consistently...
it seems there are issues with power management of RTX5090 mobile - the GPU seems unable to reach max power with some games and thus the performance are barely distinguishable from the 4090 mobile.
This was confirmed by XMG as well:
It is unclear at the moment if the issues affect the whole...
A lot of 3D chips seems to be headed for the gaming laptop market, there are several models available soon (or in some cases, already there) with the 9955HX3D (yes, the top one) like MSI Vector 18 and Raider 18, Asus ROG Strix G16. Others are expected later. Dunno how AMD will keep up with the...
Meh, I really don't understand all the fuss. Is desktop dead? No, only desktop can use the highest powered CPU and GPU because of way less restrictive power and thermal limits. It's easier to add better keyboards, large monitors and other hardware (it's not impossible to add these to a laptop...
