    Problem was eventually solved. It turned out to be the cable. I bought a RG59 coax and the dropouts were gone. I guess the new PC was more sensitive to electromagnetic interference.

    To those who might experience the same problem, I have found a solution (more of a workaround actually). I found out that if I activate the blank screen saver to start a few minutes before the monitor shuts down , then it works.

    I guess I wasn't clear enough about the Ghost issue: I did manage to restore the image in a second attempt, and got the file I needed.
