New motherboard, complete Vista Ultimate x64 reinstall avoidable?

I've just switched out my asus p5b-e plus for a p5q-e. I could not do anything pre-upgrade to make Vista play nice, as the bios got corrupted and so I had to get a new board (and they don't make/sell the p5b any more). It boots fine, everything seems good in the bios, but obviously vista...

Please recommend an Intel 775 mobo

Yeah, that's the one. The P5B-E Plus had ASUS CrashFree BIOS, supposed to find a working BIOS rom on a USB stick/CD, not that I ever got it to work fumbling around with no screen output nor PC-speaker. Certainly didn't work automatically by plugging in & booting like it was supposed to, guess...

Yeah, I'll stick with EZ Flash from now on. Considering the P45 based P5Q-E.

Please recommend an Intel 775 mobo

So, I managed to fuck up my 1.5 year old P5B-E Plus mobo grandly, by flashing the card from within Windows (I've won that gamble before, but I guess not so much this time). After some investigation, I just RMAed it, www.komplett.no confirmed the BIOS chip is attached to the card and therefore...

    Considering buying a Dell 2407WFP

Yeah, the 8800GTS can handle it, but buggy Nvidia drivers or some such means it can't use 1:1 and Aspect scaling whilst in DVI mode... Or so it seems.

Is there any actual image quality difference between DVI and VGA at 1920*1200? Using VGA seems to be the only way to get all the features of this LCD (Wide Mode, Contrast, Auto Adjust). I could compare myself, but I've honestly got no idea what to check for.

    Considering buying a Dell 2407WFP

I already tried with Freelancer, Elastomania, Fallout. I'm finding lots of hits on this issue with google, but no one sums it up clearly. edit: using a VGA cable with VGA-->DVI adapter, I can now access the Wide Menu and various other options, also before it boots the OS. Starcraft seems to...

So I'm supposed to use VGA and my VGA->DVI adapter? The 8800gts only has 2 DVI ports. And isn't DVI the new standard anyway?

How come I can't access the "Wide Mode" (for aspect/1:1/fill) menu? It's greyed out. I'm using DVI-D. Also, screen went black (except the mouse) after I quit Fallout (when I wanted to test pixel mapping) and I had to reboot. edit: it's using Nvidia software scaling (which fills out the...

    Considering buying a Dell 2407WFP

3 days after I ordered and it's here :) So far I've concluded that it's ridiculously big compared to my old 19" CRT, and that it has no dead pixels (DeadPixelBuddy). Huzzah! Now to use it.

Great :) Yes, it's looking like a very good buy now. I'll probably order tomorrow. Thanks everyone!

The Norwegian Dell site, possibly the whole Euro branch. It's still cheaper in the US though, as most technology. Converting currency directly = $1064. Starcraft runs in 640*480, does the screen only use that much area for it and blank the rest, or what?

    Considering buying a Dell 2407WFP

It's due time to replace this old 19" CRT, so I've been looking around for a good LCD. I'll primarily use it for PC games and movies. I considered getting a Samsung 22" LCD Syncmaster 226BW, but then Dell dropped the price of their 24" 2407WFP by 25% to the end of this month and made it very...
