    NEC/Mitsubishi quality control issues

I can somewhat relate, just RMA'd monitor #2. Being somewhat of a gambling man I usually order online (in this case, the local stores didn't have anything I was interested in)...and unfortunately for me I rolled snake eyes, twice. In regard to LCDs...you could buy a high quality LCD for now...

Is there a composite or s-video to VGA converter?

Viewsonic makes one, around the $100 range IIRC, but I doubt you'll find much of anything for under $30...the horizontal refresh rate of your game console has to be converted from 15kHz to 31+kHz for most PC monitors to accept the signal. That's why these devices are so expensive, a simple cable...

    9800 Pro fan going out

The Thermaltake CL-G0003 is a fanless heatpipe cooler which works well, more than enough cooling for stock speeds, but you might need a little airflow for overclocking...I run 430/460 stable with a little breeze blowing across the card. Downside is install is a b and there isn't really any room...

    Samsung 711T

lo all, OK, I returned the 711T...and bought an Eizo L568, same PVA panel as the 711T. Pros: The backlighting is generally even, on a black screen there is a *slight* (even) glow at the corners in a dark room, not at all noticeable with a light on or during normal usage, where black...

Advice on new monitor and video card

For photo editing, I would definately recommend something with an 8 bit panel (like a Samsung 910T/LG L1910), generally the "faster" panels use dithering to achieve 16.2 million colors, which may not be 'ideal' for color sensitive work. Downside is you may notice a bit more "blur" effect...

    Samsung 711T

OK thanks guys, based on your input and a tech at Samsung (who said it sounds like a "backlight" issue) I'm going to go ahead and (sigh) RMA it back to provantage. It's really only apparent on a darker screen...but still very irksome. I'll let y'all know how the replacement turns out. cheers

    Samsung 711T

Hi all, New to the forum and just bought my first LCD, a Samsung 711T (same PVA panel as the 173p/Dell 1704/others). Generally, I'm quite happy with the IQ, looks very similar to my old Trinitron, yet much sharper and no more eye bleeding when browsing the net. Games like Doom3 and Halo look...
