I know this thread is old, but I've considering the exact same notebook. The price range for it now is $700-$850, with the lowest ($700) at buy.com

I've got an IBM NetVista A40p 6579 RBU (933Mhz) desktop with the original 155W power supply working fine. That is, until I added a DVD drive - with it the machine powers down after a few hours. Now I think I need to upgrade the PSU. I've found some proprietary IBM PSUs at 185W, but I'm not sure...
