it sounds like you didn't install any of the drivers. stick in the cd that came with the mobo and install all the different drivers. you probably have to install the usb 2.0 drivers as well as the lan drivers. (and if you have onboard sound and video you need to install those too). sometimes...

thanks you were right my problem was in your list of brainstorms. it turned out that the power switch from the case was shutting down the computer completely after a few seconds. i am using the reset switch as the power and now it works fine. thanks again.
