Looks like TS140 might be the way forward then!
Thanks all for your help - I'll be ordering this weekend, so if anyone wants to make other suggestions please do so before then!
That's a novel way of looking at things, lehtv! I hadn't considered that, but it does make sense.
Do you have any sense of whether the TS140 or the TC12DX is a better performer, both thermally and acoustically? I can't seem to find anywhere that's reviewed them both, and I find it hard to...
TS140 is currently £36, Hyper 212 EVO is £25.
I think the extra £11 might be worth it, even though the c. 50% price difference obviously won't result in 50% performance.
I must admit, I do prefer the look of the Phanteks PH-TC12DX, but given that it's going in a windowless case I probably...
Hmm, lots to think about. I suppose there is a possibility that I will decide to overclock more than I'm currently planning on doing, in which case a little extra investment now might be worthwhile.
As ever, it's the question of price/performance, and where on that curve you want to be. I'll...
Thanks for the other options. I like the look of the be quiet! models, but reviews seem mixed.
I can't see a 'u type' on the Phanteks website...do you mean the PH-TC12DX?
Thanks fishingcat,
Do you have any idea how those compare acoustically? My current 6 year old rig sounds like a jet engine, so I'm keen to get something much quieter if at all possible.
Hi guys.
I'm after a CPU cooler for a new build, and I need some help.
I have a budget of about £40, and I hear lots of people recommending the Hyper 212 Evo, which is £25, and the Noctua NH-D14, which is £65.
Is there anything worth purchasing between those extremes? Maybe a 212 with third...
Now now, we've had a remarkably civil thread thus far! Don't spoil it.
My decision has now been made, so this thread is redundant from that point of view. If people want to continue the discussion feel free.
Yes, it appears the UK version of PC Partpicker is far from comprehensive, either in terms of products or in terms of retailers. Several of the CPU coolers that I'm wondering about don't appear on the site, even though they're definitely on Amazon, Scan etc.
Pound Sterling! None of that Single Currency business over here, y'know!
As for finding out which cards are voltage locked - where would one obtain such information? Knowledgeable folks on forums, or is it something that manufacturers tend to advertise? I don't think I've ever come across it...
Wow, thanks for such a lot of good advice guys! And it's even reaching a broad consensus - I didn't think that happened on the internets?
It seems to be more or less settled then - a 7970 it shall be.
The Asus is a vast triple-slot card, and more pertinently is considerably more...
