I believe it would be formatted as a Mac drive and Windows won't see it. There is a program called "MacDrive" that is supposed to allows Windows users access Macintosh formatted drives. This may be worth checking out.
Actually it's not that the computer is crashing, rather it seems the video signal is being lost completely now. The computer is still running because if I put a disk in the drive I can hear it being mounted. Oh well... hopefully they'll agree to the overnight Air shipping, because if it goes...
I tried installing the latest catalyst drivers and it actually made things worse. The computer is now crashing....
There are no mods and the system isn't overclocked.
What's weird is that a couple of times the boot screen looked fine, only to have the garbage return to the screen a little...
I spoke with tech support - they told me to remove the card and plug it back in. Needless to say it didn't make any difference.
The supervisor is supposed to call me back about possibly exchanging the card.
Any thing else I could do to test it?
I hooked up the DVI-VGA adaptor and at first I thought the problem was solved. When the computer booted the screen was fine. However once the desktop loaded, the lines were back...
I'm trying to get a hold of tech support from the company I ordered from, but I'm in voicemail hell right now....
I just received my new P4 3.2 based system today. I mail ordered it and it was preassembled. They installed the OS and tested it.
I hooked my mouse and keyboard up to the computer (via USB) and hooked up my Samsung 173T monitor via DVI and booted up. The machine booted fine, but I...
They are definitely pretty neck and neck. I would also recommend going with the system that is cheaper. Here in Canada the EE is really expensive and the Athlon 64 is a fair bit cheaper. However the regular P4 3.2 is still a fair bit cheaper than the Athlon 64 and may provide the best bang...
Pinnacle Studio 8 is notoriously buggy. It is imperitive that you update to the latest version.
I have worked on some MPEG format video in Studio 8 and found that it seemed to really bog the program down. I now try and convert all my video prior to editing in Pinnacle 8.
The forums on...
The fact that the G5 is now in the ball park with high end PC's is a good thing. It will force Intel, AMD and Microsoft to continue to innovate and ensure their systems remain fast.
I am also using a Canopus box to convert my analogue sources to digital. The one I have is a cheaper one than mentioned above, but it works extremely well. Here is the link:

Basically, you plug your VCR into the box (either S-Video...
The new Apple G5's come with a Firewire 800 port. My wife bought an external 250GB Firewire 800 drive for her G5 and its seems to be very fast but I haven't tried benchmarking it.
I believe the throughput on Firewire 800 is theoretically twice that of Firewire 400; I'm not sure real world...
It seems the G5 offers much better performance than the G4. The recently announced Dual 1.8GHz G5 is probably the way to go as it is a fair bit cheaper than the Dual 2.0GHz model, but offers nearly the same performance.
If your primarily interested in listening to music then you could save some $$$ by going with a nice 2.1 setup rather than a surround setup. I would go with either the Klipsch speakers or a set of Harmon Kardons. Harmon Kardon's has several lines of speakers that come in at various price points.
I recently built my system and when I was researching all the components I came across some benchmarks where they measured the speed of systems with 1GB vs 2GB of RAM and the 2GB systems were clearly slower (about 5-10%) - especially for gaming. There are a few apps that benefit from the extra...
