Lopri,
I have read that the Rd480 (e.g. a8r-mvp) suffered from a lot of problems, but impression was that that the rd580 based boards (e.g. a8r32-mvp) were more stable. One of the reasons I am conisdering the ATI chipset is that the ULI southbridge doesn't seem to suffer from any of the data...
Keep in mind that one of the reasons Opteron is such a threat to Intel is that they are, for the most part, not running on consumer/enthusiast grade chipsets like the nforce4 family. For example, nvidia's nforce 2200 chipset is a different piece of silicon with another 2 million transistors in...
I actually have done a fair amount of reading on the latest intel and AMD platforms, chipsets and boards. There are definitely a lot more articles and posts on problems with AMD (not the processors, but the boards and chipsets). No one would question that AMD has a superior processor...
With the latest price drops from Intel a 940 is now cheaper than an AMD X2 3800 with comparable performance (e.g. at newegg 940 costs $260 and the 3800 costs $297). And as you can see the 940 has about the same performance as an AMD X2 3800...
you could go for a workstation quality board like the tyan K8E-SLI which uses the nforce 2200 professional chipset instead of the nforce4.

Only downside with a board like this is price (around US$250 ) and that it requires an...
Some people have posted problems using the seasonic S12 series on tyan and DFI motherboards. Looks like it has a problem with the +5V rail:

right now I am running on an ancient AMD athlon 800 based system (yikes). My target system will look something like the following:
tyan tomcat K8E-SLI
amd x2 3800
2 x samsung sata spinpoint 250 gb in RAID 1 configuration
Corsair 2 GB XMS3200 TwinX C2
BFG Tech GeForce? 7800 GT OC 256 MB...
I am interested in pruchasing an AMD socket 939 based solution, but I am not impressed with any of the regular 939 chipsets. Nforce4 sounds way too buggy for my taste (even with firewall disabled and nvidia IDE drivers not installed) and each of the other mass market 939 chipsets on the market...
I am planning on getting the following build. I would appreciate it if anyone could provide comments. I am looking for a machine that meets the following criteria.
1. Silence
2. Stability
3. Performance
4. Bells and whistles (e.g. firewire ports)
I am on a budget of about CAN$2000...
I was thinking of going with an nforce4/AMD rig and was thinking of something like this:
antec P180 case
Seasonic S12 500 or 600 watt suppply with cable extender (deal with P180 and A8N issue)
Asus A8N-SLI premium
samsung spinpoint drives
video card with a heat pipe
etc.
I wanted to...
Does anyone have any information on when Exnermax's new liberty power supplies will be available in North America?
The cable design sounds promising by finally solving the problem of having more than 2-4 SATA connectors along with advanced cable management. It also looks professional and...
Hey Dynamix,
The only desktop interior I have seen being more organized than this is a G5. As others have suggested I imagine Antec would benefit from posting similar types of pictures on their website.
How loud have you found the truepower II 550 to be in this rig? Have you found it...
I notice that a lot of power suppplies which are SLI certified only have 1 PCI-Express 6 pin connector. Is it necessary to pruchase a power supply with 2 PCI-Express 6 pin connectors if you want a system that can run 2 power hungry 6800GTs?
If yes, it seems strange that supposedly high end...
