Going from 4gb to 12gb - is it worth it?

Not 30%, I exagerrated a bit. But I had about 20% fps drop in few games in Win7 DX9 mode, comparing to XP, on this config: Athlon II x4 640, 4 Gb of DDR-3 1333 mhz ram, video Radeon HD 5770 1Gb, sound Creative X-Fi Elite Pro, HDD Seagate Barracuda 1.5 Tb. Here's also few more tests...

Going from 4gb to 12gb - is it worth it?

For how long the system will boot to feed RAM with 3.2 Gb of data vs. 200 mb for 64-bit XP? Then how much drive accesses and cpu time will be spent to keep superfetch updated? Superfetch shortens HDD lifespan and eating more energy just for a small benefit of caching frequently used apps to...

Going from 4gb to 12gb - is it worth it?

I've yet to see a single modern game which will consume more than 1.4 gb on 32-bit XP. ;) The OS itself on fresh boot use only 150 mb of ram (200 for 64-bit version). And how much Windows 7 and Vista consume on fresh boot? Riiight. Also much longer boot time. Superfetch is a joke. The only ram...

4GB on windows 7 home prem, how much performance gain can I get from 8?

BTW if OP's Windows 7 is 32-bit, then adding more memory is just useless.

Going from 4gb to 12gb - is it worth it?

Well, if you you have few bucks to spare, then why not. Just don't buy cheap memory - it'll give you more problems and headaches, than benefit from low price. I've had four faulty DDR-3 2gb modules, and they were the first DDR-3 I bought. You even may not notice the problem untill you will start...

4GB on windows 7 home prem, how much performance gain can I get from 8?

Supercheap. Is this DDR-3? In my shop cheapest DDR-3 @ 1333mhz (Samsung and NCP) 2x2gb costs 2 times more and I had alot of problems with it. So I switched to high-priced, but good quality ram. Ah, yeah, OCZ is a piece of junk...

4GB on windows 7 home prem, how much performance gain can I get from 8?

For gaming its good to add another 4 gigs, more is already overkill, even for a long term perspective. Don't think that games will be use more than 3-5 gigs of ram in a next few years. Even most hardware hungry games today don't consume more than 1.4 gb of ram (Bad Company 2 for example - while...

DCT Unganged Mode and Memtest - memory errors reports

For guys who will have similiar problem - problem was in defective module. Changing it to good one fixed the problem. Why so much troubles with DDR3? Rhetorical question. Modern hardware is made from junk and made in China. This tells a lot.

DCT Unganged Mode and Memtest - memory errors reports

No, not yet and not so soon sadly. Btw PSU has only 24+4 pin connectors, while motherboard's recommended are 24+8 pins. Still its 24+4 pins compatible. But I'm not sure if this 24+4 setup can cause problems with stability. Unganged mode cosuming more energy, than ganged?

DCT Unganged Mode and Memtest - memory errors reports

While in Ganged mode theres no single error in the test, even when running it for >10 hours. So memory has rock solid stability according to memtest. When I switching it to unganged mode and starting the test, right from the start Hcidesign Memtest reporting 2-3 errors and more if I will...
