Got the XFX r9 290...AND THE PROBLEMS BEGIN

Been popping in and out of the forums asking for video card advice, and I finally ended up replacing my 7870 with an XFX R9 290 for my three monitor setup. The 7870 required me to have a powered mini displayport adapter, a displayport adapter, and a DVI to run all three. The new card has...

750 to spend, what should I do?

Was hoping the CPU isn't the choke point in this system. The testers all use the i7 for a reason... Plus, I would have to reload windows for a new mobo. Thnks

750 to spend, what should I do?

Playing FPS and Driving, Flight Sims. Running a 3 monitor system, routing sound through a pioneer receiver and a 6 piece surround sound speaker system. I was thinking of spending a bit of money on myself, and when I looked at specs for new videocards, I saw that almost all the test rigs are...

R7870 Hawk, should I go crossfire?

...staying with AMD...where do I go from here with an OC'd 965? I have a GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XM-HD3 FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) board lying around here. Should I grab a better processor and upgrade along with a new 290x card, in order to take away that bottleneck? What processor would you...

R7870 Hawk, should I go crossfire?

Yes, three monitors at 1080p. ...hate buying used video cards... I have no other machine this card could go into either. Will check pricing on new 290's. Thanks

R7870 Hawk, should I go crossfire?

I have a fairly mild gamer setup: 256 gig SSD, AMD Black 965, Gigabyte Motherboard, 8 gig of ram, and the R7870 Hawk video card. I was wondering if it would make the most sense to buy a second used 7870 series card (I cannot find another Hawk) and go crossfire, or should I just buy a new card...

    A little more than a mid-level rig?

Well said. I am thinking that, since I already have a 128 gig SSD, I will just go with that and the HDD I currently use, keep my case, and just update the mobo cpu, ram and video card. I can always add another card next summer.

    A little more than a mid-level rig?

Well, I would have said 2 cards lol. Am not sure it would be worth the extra $.

    A little more than a mid-level rig?

The video card is a bit overpriced, eh? The other prices can fluctuate daily... With two sticks of memory instead of one, (and keeping the case I want and deleting your PS choice) it comes to 1114. Not bad.

    A little more than a mid-level rig?

Here is my latest build checklist. With boilerplate questions answered.. 1. What YOUR PC will be used for. FPS/Driving sims. 2. What YOUR budget is. 1100-1400 3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. USA 4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy...

    Extensive hardware reuse...

PLEASE when you POST threads asking for input on system builds tell us... 1. What YOUR PC will be used for: gaming and photoshop. Games like Crysis two and modern drivers. Photoshop for picture rendering. 2. What YOUR budget is. 600-750 3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. USA...

Does it make sense to try Crossfire?

well it looks like the xfx is now down to 168 after rebate from the egg...and a Phenom II 970 black can be got for 149...everything else seems to be a good match. Might just be trigger pulling time...

Does it make sense to try Crossfire?

Feelers going out for my card...order going in for that 5870...thanks all! Now I am going to look at overclocking the Phenom...

Does it make sense to try Crossfire?

Well heat is not an issue, as I run the case wide open--as in the mobo side of the case is not covered at all. Lots of people recommend going with a card off of CL but man I hate buying electronics that way. Sounds like the best idea would be to wait until the 5870 drops to my price point...
