What's up guys,
Thanks for all the info. I decided to go with a MSI 7950 (for some reason the gigabyte one on amazon went up to 349.99) and hopefully OC as far as I can without messing with the stock voltage. I'm kind of excited to see if I get the 7970 pcb haha. I'm hoping this card will...
What's up,
Well with the recent price drops I have a Gigabyte 7870 on order... but now I am thinking about getting a achieva Shimian QH270 monitor (2560x1440). Will the 7870 be good enough, or should I get a Gigabyte/MSI 7950 for $50 more? I am still running an i7-920 stock though so I'm...
What's up,
Amazon has the Gigabyte 7950 for $329.99 (the new retail price) and eligible for a rebate of $20 making it $309.99. That's tax free for those from California (at least until the September deadline) so it was a great deal for me! Newegg also has the same deal going on (in case...
What's up,
Now I am interested in understanding the relationship of overclocking the cpu in relation to overclocking the gpu. For instance in my case I have a i7-920 @ 2.66ghz. From what I understand I can overclock a HD7870, but anything higher (such as a gtx 670) would be bottlenecked by...
I will wait till 7/31 (the last day to get those rebates on those HIS cards) to see if any deals come up before then. I think I'm going to go with a 7850 with really good cooling to try to overclock up to 7870 levels, or a basic (cheap) 7870 as you guys suggested. Do you guys think the...
Well I decided I would like to get a card with a better cooler so I'm looking at the HIS iceq 7870 for $280 AR. But do you think it would be worth it go with a HIS 7950 for $300 ($20 difference)?
Ahh I see... I guess I shouldn't worry about it then because now that I look at the charts more powerful GPUs have similar db levels and I don't hear anyone complaining about the noise of those haha.
What's up,
Thanks again Termie... I guess I was just getting caught up in the cool look of those two fans haha. I also read some reviews on tweaktown that the HIS version of this card was about 5db louder under max load (65.2db) than the MSI version (58.3db). Will I even notice the...
Another question just for kicks... is it worth it to pay $40 extra for the MSI 7870 just in case I wanted to overclock to stock hd 9750 levels? Or would I still be able to do that with this HIS card? I have two fans in my storm enforcer case, but if I added an extra fan or two would that...
About to buy it (My CC is having problems... gonna get it cleared up tomorrow so I can order)! One final question for you guys... Will the Seasonic PSU I bought be fine for my dell 0R849j motherboard? I have a friend that is going to assemble it for me, but he said to check that it is...
Wow that is pretty cheap for a GHz edition! I'm reading the reviews of it though on newegg and one person is saying the cooling on this card is not very good where as on tweaktown.com they say it's pretty good. Since I'm (most likely) not going to overclock this should be fine right?
What's up,
Thanks for all the great suggestions. So if I'm going to stay at 1680x1050 I should go with the HD7870, and if I'm going to go with a higher resolution GTX 670 right? Can I overclock the video card without overclocking my cpu?
Thanks,
Jay
What's up,
I just bought a new PSU (SeaSonic M12II 520 Bronze 520W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply) to power a new GPU when I buy one. Unfortunately I did not check if it was compatible with my motherboard (i7-920 cpu on the dell...
Was thinking about the MSI 7950 from newegg. Unfortunately I'm in CA so even with that rebate it still ends up being $330. Amazon also has the MSI 7950 for $330 (no tax) but it's also OOS. Do you guys think when the 660/660ti come out price might drop a little more?
