    KVM over IP Network

I'm planning to leave my computer at home media server running while at work or vacation, but in case it crashes, I need a way to see the Screen (VGA output) and control the Keyboard. I know of Networked KVMs, but if I understand correctly, most of them require 1.) KV- Network Cable...

Tool-Less Harddrive Mounts - Any effects on MTBF?

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about today's cases with Tool-Less clips that simply clip the hard drive to the case with spring studs. Since the mounting is looser compared to screw mounts, will this adversely affect the hard drive's MTBF? In fact, I was looking at this case...

RAID Array Stripe Alignment affect Performance

Just found out that RAID arrays can have alignment issues, separate from the well known 4K sector issue. I suspect it to be the cause of slow transfer rates on my Adaptec RAID 3805 RAID6 (5x Hitachi 2TB 7200 RPM) array. Nodesoft Disk Bench only gets 100MB/s writes and 80MB/s reads (these...

    Toshiba (2TB / 3TB) HDKPC08 HDKPC09 (TLER)

Some other places say that the Toshiba 2TB / 3TB HDKPC08 HDKPC09 drives are reported to be manufactured by Hitachi, so are basically the same as the 7K3000 except with 4K alignment. Does anyone know if these drives are suitable for HW Raid like the past Hitachi drives (ie:TLER)?

    QoS to give VPN priority

The IP address given by the RRAS VPN is internal existing only behind the RRAS NAT. Just to clarify, the scenario setup is: VPN Client --------- Internet --------- Router --------- VPN Server The router (correct me if I'm wrong) only sees the packets as from the VPN server LAN IP, and...

    QoS to give VPN priority

Negative, it's a single NIC DC, with Torrent download and VPN Server Might just work, I'll have to try that! The VPN is run by Windows Server 2003 RRAS. Does RRAS have QoS tagging?

    QoS to give VPN priority

How do you prioritize PPTP traffic over other traffic ie: torrents? Currently have a server that handles both but would like to prioritize VPN connections over torrents. PPTP uses GRE Port 47 for data, but it's not TCP or UDP DLINK gives several options TCP, UDP, ICMP, and Other in it's...

Firewall with Routing and Remote Access (RRAS)?

I have a home server set up for a few local client machines to serve Files and provide a consistent computing environment across local client workstations thru the use of Folder Redirection. Recently, with the addition of VPN thru RRAS (Routing and Remote Access), the windows firewall had to...

    Boot Sector Difference?

the * partition is there for boot files. Windows 7 automatically creates it to store boot files so that fools won't accidentally delete it on the C: Although I appreciate the extra info, This thread isn't actually an inquiry for SSD optimization. It's an inquiry on how to fix the boot sector...

    Boot Sector Difference?

I googled the terms boot sector copy difference. Apparently from the results, they seem to say that every partition has 2 identical boot records, one in the front and one in the back as backup. If we are to take the message here at face value, it seems that the two boot records differ...

Looking at doubling from 8GB to 16GB of RAM

Yes, I find it hilarious that after all the money people spend on the SSDs they buy, they get home and spend even more time figuring out how to AVOID using them. lol I'm not sure who to blame, but if the users are right, it says a lot about the current state of flash technology, on the other...

    Boot Sector Difference?

Before I migrate the OS partition ( C: ) to an SSD, I want to fix this problem that's been here for a while. (It's what Killdisk is telling me) Anyone know how to fix the following? (Or will the problem even transfer to the SSD if I'm just copying the OS partition? ) FYI This are the...

    Raid 1 + jbod !?!??!

I'm setting up a server. Components: 6x 2TB Harddrives Chipset: Intel P55 (supports certain kinds of BIOS RAID) I want to set up a mirror raid. So that 3 drives mirror the other 3 drives. At first I through RAID 1 could handle a 6 drive mirror automatically, but then I realized it's...

Warning: ThermalRight HR-05/IFX Pad Support Health Hazard

Who knows what chemicals were used to make foam plastics. People don't wear air filters in plastics manufacturing plants for fashion. So it certainly can't be beneficial. This is the first time I've seen a cooling product with foam harden to chalk like this.

Warning: ThermalRight HR-05/IFX Pad Support Health Hazard

After 2 years of usage, the 680i mobo failed to POST. Upon removal of the ThermalRight HR-05/IFX (to claim warranty from Asus), I discover the square pad support installed between the chipset and the HR-05/IFX had become hardened and chalky. No longer was the pad removable in one piece...
