Looks like you have the same motherboard as I do. I don't have any problem booting from the sata cd/dvd burner. Like loading Windows XP or Vista. To get the raid to work you have to load the drivers.
I have a Abit SH-6 with the 815E chipset and I was using the intel Ultra storage driver that I add. It did not show the dma check box for the cdrw. So what I did was remove the intel driver and restarted the computer and dma box was back. Then I ran the firmware update and had no problem after that.
