Connecting to PC at home, How ?

The previous poster's post was relevant and correct. logmein.com is just another option you have.

Virus got past Avira antivirus program :(

Where did it find the virus? What is your guard set to? (you can set it to scan on read, write or both.) If it wasn't set to scan on write then it could have been saved to your computer somehow and since you never opened the file it would not have detected it without a scan.

    FRAPS limiting network speed

Good question. I think they were updated using Windows Update but not sure how new they are. It's a new PC build (only a couple months old) and I'm pretty sure I picked up the latest drivers.

    packing/storing cables

I coil them up and put a couple twist ties on it. I have a large plastic bin that I have all my ethernet/phone/coax and other long cables (such as 50ft VGA and SVideo) just sitting in. I use the plastic drawer systems from Target and the like for anything smaller. I have WAY too many cables...

    FRAPS limiting network speed

As I said in my first post: "I have the registered version (yes, I paid for it) and just by having it open (not recording or playing a game)" I did have a friend test on his PCs who was also running 64bit Windows (although it was 7 and I'm running Vista) and he did not experience the same...

flash 10 not working with opera 9.64

Just last night I installed Opera 9.64 and Flash 10 on my Ubuntu desktop. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 x64 though so I don't know if it's because t's 64bit that it worked. Here are the two guides I used to install both: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OperaBrowser...

    Which Hard Drives to Use

I agree with those suggesting WD RE drives. I have been running RAID5 with RE2 drives for 2 years now. I started with 5 drives and ended up getting a couple Hitachi drives from someone and added those to my array sometime last year(I use Linux software RAID.) Just last month I had one of the...

    FRAPS limiting network speed

I've been wondering why my network speed has been so slow lately. I used to easily get 50MB/sec or more from my file server and I've only been getting about 15MB/sec max (usually less.) I tried all sorts of tips and tricks for both my Vista PC and my Linux fileserver but found that I was...

    Need 8 AHCI SATA ports!

From the GA-EP45-DQ6 manual: http://i38.tinypic.com/jz71ao.jpg EDIT: I just realized I read that wrong. I was reading it as the SATA controller still operates in PATA mode rather than the IDE controller. So if it's in RAID mode is it in AHCI mode?

    Need 8 AHCI SATA ports!

Can anyone recommend a motherboard with at least 8 AHCI configurable SATA 3Gb/s ports? If not I would also accept recommendations for a decent, low cost 4+ port SATA controller card (needs AHCI, PCIe, and SATA 3Gb/s) that would work well with Linux. My file server's motherboard is very...

    Conroe motherboards

I work in a fairly large company and we're looking at our options before ordering new components. We're trying to use up all of our AGP, Socket 478 and DDR stuff. Well it turns out the low end C2D's are cheaper then what we've been ordering for P4's and still faster (unless someone can show...

    XP-90C or XP-120?

I just wanted to say the XP-120 is great. I have a Thermaltake fan with the 3 speed control options and blue led (the clear led ones were rated at a lower db I believe). Motherboard is set to control the fan and it never ever has to raise the speed. But it does shut it off sometimes (cool &...
