If power management is enabled in both your puter's BIOS and in WinDOS, that very well may be the cause of some beerburps...
Try disabling all power management in BIOS but leave APM enabled in WinDOS.
Or vice-versa.
Point is, completely...

Well, my own puter is an old Acer P75 (or a P133 if I want to change the chip) 64RAM WinDOS 95 machine.
I used to have a Diamond SupraMax 56K PCI winmodem I'd connect to the inet with.
Which worked fine. But that's 'cause I really didn't know any different....

I agree with "esung" that Serial 2 (aka COM2 or COM 2) needs to be disabled in your machine's BIOS (aka CMOS, Setup, Setup Utility, etc.) so that WinDOS can activate COM 2 in its little shell world.
