Why is the network so slow at work?

Could drive mapping be a problem? My sister had this problem on her network. Whenever she was working on 1 machine, the files would be copied to every HD on the network. Slowed things down just a bit....

    32x CD Burners...worth the premium over 24x??

I disagree. My Pentium I @ 180Mhz burns more than fine at 24x. If you can't get above 16x, then you need to reconfigure something (DMA maybe?).[/i] >> Really? So it will burn 650meg (a full CD) in around 5 mins?

    LAN Dial up mystery.

I run XP on one machine that has a printer, and ME on another that does not. They are connected via an 8 port hub. They are both working fine, and can share files etc no problem. However, whenever the LAN is used to print a document on the ME machine, or start a LAN game, it starts to dial out...

Are you trying to dual boot? The W98 (FAT32) partition must be first.

    Hard drive IDE config??

The DVD is most likely ATA33. Are you going to hook up a CD-Rom as well? If not do the following... If you install a lot of games put the DVD and the HD you install them to on different channels.(controllers) The HD will run at ATA100 just fine with an ATA33 drive on the same channel. Your choice.

    32x CD Burners...worth the premium over 24x??

Remember that you will also need some kick ass hardware to get that burner running up to speed! On my Athlon 1.3ghz my 20/10/40 Ricoh burner probably never hits 20X, more likely it burns around 16X...

    XP vs. 98

Frame Rates are slower under XP, quite a bit slower in some cases, so gaming suffers a bit. (I went from WinME to XP) Of course, XP crashes less. You will also need LOTS of new drivers for your hardware. Don't even think about dual boot.....

Annoying popup, cannot get rid of.. HELP

Have a look at the startup in system Info tool. Start/programs/accessories/system tools/system information Then Software Environment/Startup Programs. See if the little sod is starting up in there. It will also give you the location of the file. Good Luck.

XP dials modem on own via Generic Host Process for Win32 Services

Try this: In Explorer, go to Tools/Internet Options/connections. select your ISP in the window, then Settings/Properties/Options. Clear the box marked "Redial if line is dropped" Sometimes, it does a bit more than just what it says! Good Luck
