I also had the same problem with my mx300 (diamond) when I installed Windows 2000 Professional. The sound started up ok, then cut out. Tried everything. Drivers, switching IRQs, etc. Apparently win2k doesn't like many soundcards, especially the ones that use vortex drivers. I switched back...

I think win2k has problems with many soundcards including my mx300 (diamond). I tried reinstalling all the drivers, changed pci slots, and also changed the IRQs with the same problem of sound working for the first few seconds, then cutting out. It may have something to do with win2k's WDM...
