    NE1 else been lookin' at the $112 SiS655 Gigabyte GA-8SQ800?? **UPDATED 2/22**

Thanks Dead Parrot Sketch.... I spotted those threads last Friday... Prometheus over there is very helpful.... I tried one of his suggested memory settings, but no good... I then decided to update the BIOS... Unfortunately, the random resets truly are random as it reset half-way through the BIOS...

But that's not really a solution.... Runing the RAM slower than the spcifications is simply avoiding the problem.... The main reason for buying this motherboard was to run my RAM at dual channel DDR 400......

What do you mean in sync? I'm running it at stock settings which is 133 and DDR400... 400 is a multiple of 133.... In fact, it reseted on me when I was updating the BIOS!!!! I RMA'd it back to newegg... but without any in stock, I wonder when I will be getting a new board =( ....... It's just...

    NE1 else been lookin' at the $112 SiS655 Gigabyte GA-8SQ800?? **UPDATED 2/22**

I ordered the 8SQ800 from newegg.... But for the life of me, I can't get it to run stable. Every setting is left at default. I have a P4 2.4B, Corsair low latency DDR400 ram, Radeon 9500, Antec TruePower 480W PS.... It would RESET itself randomly! Even when I'm just navigating the BIOS menu...

Radelon: When you say "won't run," do you mean that the system does not boot? or just unstable? If unstable, does it do random resets? or just BSOD? The first night, mine resets even before loading the OS!! Random lockups and resets occured when I was trying to navigate the BIOS menu!!! And...

Waitaminute! I just ran into this! Prometheus from Asusboards.com said: "... the chipset recognizes my Corsair Low-Latency as 400 and sets mem to 400 - a bit of a pleasant surprise. However, the timings on -Latency SPD may be slightly too agressive at DDR400 for this chipset. I was...

No... Not OC'ing at all... I wanted to get the system up and stable before touching anything... BIOS settings are at default... except for minor things like boot order, on-board AC'97 disabled. No timing/voltage settings were touched! Well.. I finished my testing last night (early this...

I'm beginning to start testing... I've kept the motherboard, CPU, HD the same... I replaced the Radeon with a GeForce2, and the Corsair DDR400s with one stick of Crucial DDR266. Everything went smoothly.... Now, I've replaced the Radeon, added a network card, and everything is okay so far as...

    ***Gigabyte GA-8SQ800(SiS655)***

Bad news for me... I got the board (8SQ800) two days ago... along with 2 sticks of brand new Corsair Low Latency DDR 400 256MB RAM, new ATI Radeon 9500, new WD 120GB SE. That's pretty much my setup... and it booted fine, installed WinXP and Service Pack fine.. Then, it started to slow down...

SiS 655 *2-18-03 UPDATE* MSI, Gigabyte and ASUS Done

Just ordered the 8sq800 from NewEgg... Does anyone one know how well the on-board sound performs? Mainly, is it anymore CPU-intensive than any old add-on PCI sound card? I have a plain ol' SB Live in my current system.
