That was it! The tearing is gone. From what i'd read about nvidia's adaptive sync, it was supposed to be better than vsync; why on earth do they have the adaptive option if it works like crap?

Also, as stated above it happens on my non-freesync monitor.

OK, so I turned off FreeSync on my monitor but left vsync adaptive enabled (it is vsync) and getting much worse tearing. Switched settings back, tearing is back to where it was before I changed. Other suggestions?

OK, so I tried the above suggestions and still getting the hangs, though I only noticed it in online games in testing thus far. Haven't noticed it on the desktop without anything open or in firefox. Any other ideas? Could it be that my cable modem or nic needs replaced?
