Is the problem the same in Firefox as it is in Internet Explorer?

I currently have a 2900XT, which uses the 6 and 8 pin connectors. Since I have everything neatly routed behind my mobo, it is quite a chore to replace cables. Can I just use the current 8 pin in the 6 pin slot on my 4870? Thanks.

How about if I leave the power connectors in, and connect 2 more 6 pin connectors to the new card? If I hook my monitor up to the 4870, will I be able to use that as my primary display?

What I had in mind was cutting the wires, then wrapping each individual wire in electrical tape. I would then bundle the wires together, and wrap that in electrical tape. Would this still carry the likelihood of shorting out? If each wire is separated and taped, the chances of a short are...
