Anyone have experience with the LG N4B2N NAS?

Want to start myself a dedicated NAS box, and I'm very interested in the LG N4B2N. It will be used mainly for Streaming movies/TV shows and backing up files. Anyone have an opinion on this model one way or the other? I'm also looking at the QNAP TS-419P+, but it seems like I would get...

WHS trial expired, need temp alternative to access data

I need an alternative that will let me access the data on my WHS box without it restarting every hour. I will not be using WHS any longer, so I will not be buying it and therefore can't activate it. I won't have time for a few weeks to start the long undertaking of installing a replacement...

Need major help choosing file server/NAS software

I've been messing around with it in the virtual PC quite a bit, and want to thank everyone for the great information and excellent advice, it's running in VPC 2007 without a hitch and it gives me a great idea of how it would work in a real setup. 120 Day trial from MS auto-updated to the newest...

Need major help choosing file server/NAS software

Micromanagement is part of it. I've been keeping my drives extremely neat for some time now. I bought a drive recently for my HD movie collection, I have nothing but HD movies on it, and know exactly how much space is left specifically on that drive for future movies which helps me prepare for...

How much memory is enough for Win 7 x64?

I honestly don't remember the exact issues I was having, I know they were small and more than likely had workarounds, but I much prefer for stuff to work out of the box if possible. ;) As I said before, for me, I have no need for x64, my personal opinion is still the benefit is only had by a...

How much memory is enough for Win 7 x64?

For me, the likely hood of me running into a compatibility issue or drivers issues, etc... is much more likely than me seeing the benefit of the extra RAM or an out of the blue x64 program that I HAVE to have, but again that's just me and my usage patterns. I had one or two x64 related issues...

Need major help choosing file server/NAS software

You're right about Linux, I have basic knowledge but i'm no expert, I was kind of misleading about my concerns, I'm more concerned that I can't hot swap it, rather than worried that the drive will die, if I had an ubuntu server for instance I wouldn't be able to take it out and have it...

Poll: Is/was Vista really that bad?

I can only comment on Vista at launch... UAC, Nvidia drivers, gaming performance, folder contents that had to "load", programs that HAD to be run as admin or in compatibility, ventrilo i'm looking at you..., and so on, yes Vista sucked, was it completely microsofts fault, of course not, but...

How much memory is enough for Win 7 x64?

I saw no benefit in running X64 Win7, if the 32 bit version ran better I'd say stick with that, I think the benefit at this point is still theoretical for normal day to day usage, unless if you need x64 for a specific use or program that is documented to run significantly better under x64.

Need major help choosing file server/NAS software

Need major help choosing file server/NAS software Long story short, I'm been reading here and trying hard to choose a server OS, but it's getting confusing. My main pc is XP, and will probably be Win7 in the near future. Server is non raid and wired via crossover cable to main PC, could...

    WHS vs NAS

Ugh, that's what I had gathering through doing some research, but never knew for sure. Had one last question, is it possible to keep your files organized on the drives, for instance I like to keep my files on their respective drives, ie; drive one has TV shows, drive two has HD movies, etc...

    WHS vs NAS

Can one of you WHS guru's answer a quick question please, I want to make a WHS server, however is it true you have to format any drives you add to the server? Right now I'm have 2 500GB and 1TB drives I would add to the server, all formatted NTFS and currently have data on them, having to...
