First, thanks for all that helped!!
I tried ERD Commander 2005... but didn't find any option to recover the MBR... the disk trees were empty...
I then tried Acronis Disk Director and Acronis Disk Image but wouldn't deal with Dynamic Disks.
I found something called MBRWiz and just used...
I jsut tried ERD 2005 and couldn't see the drive...
Rebel: I looked into Acronis but when I'm about to hit "go" (or whatever) it states that it may erase data... So I'm not sure if it *may* or if it actually wipes the drive... they are not very clear about that...
Old Hippie: Will the boot...
I've been using a WD3200AAKS-00YGA0 in various USB and eSATA docks for the last year without any problem -- UNTIL about a week when I made changes to my system. There was no immediate cause and effect between the change and the drive no longer being recognized (and I don't remember the changes I...
I'm migrating my desktop system and programs from a Raptor 150Gb to an SSD. I'm a photographer and mostly use raw processor software, Photoshop, Firefox and the Office suite.
Hard Drive Set-Up:
- Raptor 50Gb partition: System and Programs
- Raptor 25Gb partition: Scratch disk, caches, and...
Thanks for all the help everyone. I was able to take my original system disk, make a disk image using the Seagate software (requires a Seagate drive to be detected). Once done, I copied the MBR and the image to the Raptor partition using the Restore feature. As blazer mentioned, I unplugged the...
Thanks! I do own a bunch of Seagate (they have the best warranty, don't they) so I'll give DiscWizard a whirl and see if that will work. I'll report back and thanks again.
Since I'm migrating to a Raptor, I'll use the WD software. I've looked on their web site and are we talking about the "Data Lifeguard Tools v11.2 for Windows"?

If not, would you mind letting me know which of the WD...
I don't have anything "special"... But Vista 64 has "Backup and Restore Center"... I just can't figure out out to define the "target" drive to install the image on...
I'm trying to migrate my Vista 64 system and programs from its current HD to my new Fast[er] Raptor. I thought it would be simple by using the Vista Backup and Restore Center but I must be denser than the average Joe because I can't get it to do what I want.
I created a System backup of my OS...
Urtho,
Which BIOS rev. do you have in the rig you built for your dad at X-Mas time?
I'm asking because there is a known bug with this board and all of the late BIOS -- it won't see a USB keyboard or USB mouse!
I was able to boot vista x64 from the previous hard drive but I'm running into something weird. My USB keyboard (cheap recent lenovo) and USB mouse (kensington) not operational in vista (ie, the light on the keyboard doesn't light up and I can't type). (I know the USB ports work because I...
Good thing I'm already bald because I would be pulling all my hair out!
I'm able to use my USB keyboard when I'm navigating the BIOS. For a while, I was also able to use the keyboard and mouse if they were connected to the USB hub in my Dell 3007 monitor. However, if I re-booted and connected...
Roguestar,
Thanks for the quick reply. That was my initial intention, but when I boot in safe mode, my USB keyboard and mouse don't work. I know the USB port is ok because I use this particular port for the USB flash drive and it worked fine. Is there something I need to do in the BIOS to...
