Everyone talks that this X processor is better than Y processor. AMD vs Intel. dual core vs quad core. Opteron vs Xeon. Stepping vs FSB vs L2 cache considerations. Doesn't matter.

Well my understanding so far about processors is core is better than two for all the reasons stated above. however, the OS and more importantly the apps have to take advantage of this (through multithreading - is this same as multiprocessing?)

well I went back and did some more research and there are some genuine quad core laptops, toshiba qosmio G50. A new lenovo thinkpad whose model I promise to obtain - it's that new. Xtreme 917V and the Rock XSL8. In fact the XSL8 has xeon quad core not just these wimpy regular quad cores...

First, I realize there are no laptops named xeon.
As I understand it, the hierarchy goes like this.
T series --> P series --> X series --> Xeon series (X if I'm not mistaken stands for extreme processor). Where does the E series fit in?
I know there are at least 2 laptops that have quads...
I know that intel's xeon is meant for corp servers. The only consumer deployment of the xeon processors for regular joes like us is the Apple Mac Pro desktop that I know of.
