Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

I was just going to mention this. I've specifically avoided the "Start Screen" as well as the Windows store by means of StartIsBack. I specifically didn't attach my hotmail account to my Win8 install because I didn't want them linked, therefore I have no access to the Windows store. Will...

Does a 7970 support TWO 2650x1440 monitors out of the box?

I ran two Shimians off my 7950 (had to buy an active DP converter to run the second). However, my 7950 idled around 54C which I thought was too hot. Wound up buying a cheap secondary video card to power the second display. 7950 now idles in the low 30's.

    WD Green, Red, or AV-GP?

Sorry to necro this thread, but I was google searching this very same comparison, and here we are... I'm going to be adding 3TB of storage to my WHS11 box, and currently have 4 Samsung Spinpoints. Since they don't sell them anymore, I'm looking at either a green, red, or av-gp drive...

Advice on new WHS + Indexer VM box

Thanks for the suggestions. Do you think that the dual core with HT will handle mkv streaming + VM indexing consecutively better than the 4 cores of the A8?

Advice on new WHS + Indexer VM box

Been feeling the need to upgrade my trusty WHS v1 box for a little while now, as it's getting a bit long in the tooth. Also, I'm thinking of running my own newsgroup indexer running under a VM on the server. Current setup: AMD Athlon II X2 240 at 2.8Ghz Foxconn A74-MLK mobo 2 GB DDR2...

    Planning For A WHSv1 Replacement?

I'd also like to hear your comparison between 2012E and WHS2011. I have an aging WHS v1 box which I will probably upgrade sometime in 2013. I use it to stream a lot of content (movies, playon, etc...) to a HTPC. If 2012E has trouble streaming content, it may make my OS decision that much easier.

    2nd Experience with Windows 8

I just call it Windows 7 SP2 now. After installing StartIsBack, and even putting the original Win7 wallpaper back on, it looks and feels just like Win7. However, I still get the under the hood improvements of Win8. Haven't even seen Metro in weeks.

    Win8 Start button options

StartIsBack is apparently at RC1.0, and will be $5 for 5 computers, or $3 for 2 computers.

ATI HD7950 idle bug Windows 8

Tried 12.11. I have the same idle bug issue on BOTH Win7 and 8 with those drivers. Apparently ATI has reproduced the idle bug issue with 12.11, and are in process of trying to correct it.

ATI HD7950 idle bug Windows 8

    Ok...fully un-installed 12.10 and installed 12.9 beta drivers. Back to 300/150 downclocks.

ATI HD7950 idle bug Windows 8

I have a MSI Twin HD7950 card. Was running fine under Windows 7. Decided to try Windows 8 this morning, and I now have the idle bug where the card won't downclock to 300/150. I've already tried uninstalling the drivers, and re-installing a clean version for Win 8 x64 from ATI's website...

Gave windows 8 a proper try, still sucks

I haven't seen it mentioned much, so I'll bring up another 3rd party solution: StartIsBack http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/158666-start-is-back-beta-4/ The author has apparently injected Windows 7 explorer code back into 8, and the computer boots up to the desktop, with the normal Win7 Start...
