CPU Upgrade Question: Duron 1.2 Retail VS Athlon 1.3 OEM

I got a 1.2 Duron - Definitely faster than a 600. However, the HSF that came with it wasnt quite up to the job. It would hit 52-54 celcius under load, in a very well ventilated case. So I went with a Volcano 7+ and it never goes over 42 celcius now, on the LOW fan speed setting even...

2 monitors side by side = flickering screen

try running the monitors at the exact same refresh rates, it that doesnt help, then there is probably minimal/no shielding on one or both of your monitors crt's. I tried putting an old 14 incher next to my 17, and had the same problem. It was so old though, that it would not run above 60hz...

Converting a cpu to a gpu

<sarcasm>would it be possible to convert a blender into a helicopter with a rocket launcher?</sarcasm> I think the thought is good: why not harness the power of an already designed, very high speed chip, and use it solely for graphics processing... However, the functions required for graphics...

Finally got **pics** of my new '02 WRX Impreza online!!

something not mentioned, the WRX is turbocharged, vs no turbo for the boxster. For those lucky enough to drive turbocharged cars, you will know, they have huge torque curves that are practically flat (does not drop off drastically as rpm's increase)....

    XP1600+ cpu temp idle @ 56C ?!?

just a thought; intake fans are not junk! Concept: Try sucking air through a 10 foot straw, and then see how much easier it is with someone blowing in the other side.... You certainly get much more cf/m of airflow, and much better flow on your pci cards, and vid card if the fan is placed...

Do you ever upgrade just to tinker with your PC? -=Official Upgradaholics Anonymous Thread, come in and share=-

yes.. definitely... Checking fry's ads every friday to 'see if there's anything I need'. Has anyone ever made a '10 reasons why your computer is better than a girlfriend' list yet? I could certainly contribute to that...

Help! I can't format my new maxtor d740x harddrive!?

This is a bit off but, related... just got a new d740x (80gb) yesterday for my GF, OEM... Believe it or not, after 2 hours of trying to get just the bios to recognize the freakin thing, (multiple Mobo's, cables, etc tried) it turned out the JUMPER was bad... Yes, that's right, that simplistic...

    Anyone Purchased K7S5A latetly?

I bought two a couple months ago with 1.2 durons... (90$ bundle). Strangely, one works perfectly with pc133 chips, and the other is a total b1tch unless I use ddr, but otherwise, very cheap price, good performance/stability.

Should I upgrade my video card (GF2 Ultra) or my Processor (P3 550@733)

I think you're stuck with both in this case, but my personal choice would be the cpu - an xp 1600 or better would give you a very nice performance increase, but, at the same time you'll very obviously see the performance limits of your gf2... At least, that was my experience when I upgraded my...

    Toms hardware... dorks...

Just in case some of you feel the need to say 'well no mr jon, the REAL master is the cd you take to the replication plant, that is used to make the glass master..' pre-master vs. glass master What's the Difference between the CDR and the Glass Master? Premastering, not mastering, is the more...

    Toms hardware... dorks...

For those who dont know, the master is made of GLASS... and it is not a CD. The glass masters are 'cut', not burned with lasers. The glass masters are used to make stampers (metal I believe) and the actual cd's are made with the stampers. Now when did you say the laser came in the...

    Toms hardware... dorks...

Quote from their "Mysteries of cdr's and backups' article... "--The digital signature, which cannot be copied by CD recorders or mastering equipment, is embedded by the laser beam recorder at the time the CD-ROM is mastered at the replication facility. However, many drives that support RAW...

    good CCNA books?

the book daniel suggested is a good one, but, I found it to be way to un-structured, dry, and illogically put together. Try reading through the one he suggested, and maybe also something like ccna for dummies; that might help you to make sense of all the repetive droning mindless sludge you...
