not exactly true, HT will help more than that - programs send out multiple threads and thus there will be slight speed improvements in many programs even with only one program open.

Jeff is correct - the A64s (non fx) are top-locked, thus many boards can allow lowering of the multiplier

nevertheless if you used pc3200 at the same fsb speed that benchy would be much higher- the p4 is ALL about bandwidth availability - due to the fact it has a long pipeline, stalls will really hurt performance, that is why you need the fastest mem bandwidth possible.

p4 would be best for video work 2.4c is an excellent overclocker, better than 2.6c due to lower multiplier

I agree with this guy- plus the higher bartons dont overclock that well.

I would definitely recommend the A64 3000+... its a steal and should overclock at least to A643200+ speeds, and beats the intel cpus at similar speeds

exactly right, russiansensation is deadwrong. If that were the case, no one would overclock past having to lower ram timings. It has been proven many times that faster ram speed in mhz has a much greater performance improvement than cas latency etc

no athlon xp requires memory faster than pc 2100 - any athlon xp would work with it

yes go with that, then get some high quality ddr, and you can up the fsb without unlocking the cpu since its only 1600 + :) should perform very well
