So, yesterday (Friday, July 20th), to make a long story short, the video card on my DVR (mythtv, sempron based) burned out. I initially tried rebooting the box several times. Everything would spin up and then shutdown. Not good. Noticed a bad smell, again not good. Pulled the video card...

Well, I cleaned off the original thermal pad that came with the heatsink. Then I applied some generic silver paste I had picked up at Microcenter. I will have to check the actual brand name. I put a line right down the center of the chip since that is what everything I had read said.

Well crap.. It looks like my temps are about 5 degrees higher... That is not good. I moved to an Antec P180B. So, I don't think that the case is the issue. I must have reseated the stuipid thing incorrectly..

I am switching cases. I thought that I would take this opportunity to redo my heatsink. It is a stock heatsink on a 6300. The problem is, is that one of the pins that holds the hs down won't release. When I turn it, it just clicks. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Hmm... Ok.. I will try to reseat the heatsink... Strange that there is that much difference between the readings...
