    Wiring configuration for Cat6

I appreciate the link, but I thought Cat6 was differently wired than Cat5e. Are you saying that Cat5e and Cat 6 are wired the same? Thanks for all of your help, Jerrin

    Wiring configuration for Cat6

When I am going to wire all my connector plugs (the ends opposite the keystone jacks), I need to wire them all exactly the same, correct (as in 568-B or 568-A)? Is there a perferred wiring method for Cat6? If so, why? Thanks for the advise all!

    Wiring for Cat6

Guys, What kind of box do I need to place my wires/keystone jacks in? I know I need faceplates, but do I need a special kind of box to attach them to? Will the standard boxes do (like the kind the coax goes in)? Thanks all!

    Keystone Jacks?

One last question (for awhile).... Is the wiring scheme needed for the cat6 keystone jacks the same as the layout of the modular connectors on the other end of the cable? In other words, do I have to place the ends of the wires in different configurations? Thanks for all your help!

    Keystone Jacks?

*laughs* That's exactly what I wanted to know! I figured the blade would likely be the best way to go for a novice. Thanks again for all of your help Jonny and the rest of you!

    Keystone Jacks?

Thanks Jonny! Another question for ya. Is this what I need to make the connection to my keystone jacks (i.e. "punchdown")? http://www.lanshack.com/product1.asp?SID=10&Product_ID=120 The site has an "economy" version that is much cheaper, but it lacks the built in blade. I'm guessing...

    Keystone Jacks?

"The connection to the wan is less than 10baseT" When you say that, what do you mean? Are you talking about the DSL speeds (less than 3 meg/sec)? My understanding was that a router was better for my needs. Would a switch be better for my situation? I'm about to buy my keystone...

    Keystone Jacks?

"All I was saying is that I prefer to terminate at a wall plate or patch panel before continuing to the switch or router rather than plugging my drops straight into a switch or router. Even a small, wall mount, vertical 8 port patch panel is better than nothing IMHO." Why is that? Is it...

    Keystone Jacks?

JonnyGURU, Thanks again for the info. What I am trying to accomplish is this (feel free to interject): I'm shooting for a gigabit network for gaming and file/printer sharing. I'll actually have 1 PC, 1 printer, a Xbox next and a PS3 plugged in (when they arrive). I'm planning on...

    Keystone Jacks?

So, I punch one end of the cable into the keystone jack and on the other end, I place one of those Cat 6, 8 Conductor Modular Plugs. And the Cat 6, 8 Conductor Modular Plug will go directly into my router. Is that correct? Franky Junior and Jonny Guru, thank you for all of your help...

    Keystone Jacks?

Could someone explain to me how to wire a keystone jack for Cat6? Do I use Cat 6, 8 Conductor Modular Plugs on each ends of my drops and then plug that into the keystone jacks? Or does only one side have a Cat 6, 8 Conductor Modular Plug and the other end terminates directly into the...

    How to create/wire Cat6 network

Not to seem too slow here, but I need: Cat 6, 8 Conductor Modular Plugs and also keystone jacks? As well as a punch down tool and the crimper tool? Am I basically making a patch cable to each room that connects to the router and the DSL modem? My understanding is that I am running a...

    How to create/wire Cat6 network

That's a really good idea. I was planning on running three drops (out of the 9) into my den, so I could hook up the Xbox, PS3 and my receiver to the network. However, due to the fact that I'll only have one TV in there, a hub might be the best way to do it since I won't be using more than one...

    How to create/wire Cat6 network

First off, I am a relative novice when it comes to networking. However, I am building my first house and I would like a simple home network. I'm looking to connect 2-3 computers, have a shared printer, and be able to connect my Xbox next or PS3 to the network as well. I bought some Cat6 cable...
