Are you sure the "new" files are really new. They are most likely the same one's you have now, this is the reason for the time stamp being same. Creative doesn't update the drivers unless an issue has come about. Go to their site and see if this issue is listed. Jbond

Take MD out of case, place on flat surface with no metal under it. Plug the Power Supply into the MD, add the Video card, RAM that is all. Try it then if it start then try HD cables/floppy cable. If there is a short or ground you will find it out fast. Jbond

You have bad sectors on the drive. And yes it will take for ever if all sectors are bad. Not to mention that now a 13gig drive is a 4gig. At price of drives toss it and get new one.
