Your PC is getting pretty old, buying one component after the other to try and fix something that could well be software related is not cost effective.
If I were you I would:
1) Buy an external drive (maybe you already have one) connect your harddrive that won't boot as well as the one that...
I've seen similar behaviour from a bad cable/connector in the past.
What board is this? DVI out from MB or separate GPU? Is there a different output you can try?
Have you tried a different browser?
Also: What o/s are you running, desktop/laptop... more info.
Has this started happening recently? Have you changed anything?
You might be able to do a repair install and get away with it (ie probably)
You can also use the recovery to delete all drivers for his old haardware and it will probably work..
But both of those are much mor elikely to leave you with problems down the line.
At any rate you can't expect...
If the GPU isn't working in another machine that sounds like a pretty good clue that there's something wrong with it.
RMA that first I'd say.
EDIT: Ignore the above... misread your post!
I'd advise the usual to start troubleshooting:
Take the motherboard out of the case put it on...
That error sounds like a typical can't boot windows error (ie Disk read error - invalid system disk)
After changing hardware he's definitely going to need to reinstall windows...
Can he boot of cd and try reinstalling?
I'm pretty sure everything is working fine...
Hmm rereading your post again does make it seem like drivers. Make sure you uninstall the drivers for your card before installing new ones.
It might be worth running something like http://www.download3k.com/Inst...aner-Professional.html
Are the crashes listed in the event logger?
It doesn't really sound like your graphics card.
Could be ram, cpu overheating, software (drivers) even sound card...
In fact... disable your sound card and see if you still get crashes.
Test out your memory, and log the cpu temp to see if it overheats.
