Old Abit IS7 crashed and burned!!

I am not sure what happened, a power surge, or to much time without a fan on the chipset, but it is fried. The fans kept burning out and the pins kept popping out. Then it froze and when I popped open the case the heat sink was lying there, no telling for how long this time. I took it to...

    Digital/HD sound question

Interface, got it and thanks. As soon as I read your reply it dragged itself from my muttled mind or whats left of it. I think I knew that once . I know, easy for me to say. Like in trivia games, I'm the one who always says oh dang I knew that answer...

    Is My monitor permanantly wounded?

Thanks QuixoticOne and OrooOroo, I doubt I will not be trying to take it apart as I am far to lazy and I am quite sure that would be the end of what is left of the monitor. It was pretty clean water and my screen is clean, the problem is under the screen surface. It is like the water settled...

    Digital/HD sound question

Thanks PerdueRy I will check that out and let you know. I knew spdif was an acronym for something but should have guessed it was something digital. Actually I should have looked it up huh!

    Is My monitor permanantly wounded?

Thank you PottedMeat, TheKub, and mpilchfamily for your responses. Who knows it may dry but I haven't noticed any change as of yet. However I did notice awhile ago that when I rubbed the screen that the shape of the blobs changed a little so maybe that means the pixels aren't dead. Who knows...

    Is My monitor permanantly wounded?

I kinda know that I am hoping against all hope. But you never know, maybe those hundreds of (wounded or dead) pixels causing enormous black blotches at the bottom of my screen will come back when they dry? If there is a chance in a million I won't shop. If there isn't, I guess I am in the...

    Digital/HD sound question

Thank you Tiamat, I did have optical on my last board I used with these speakers (Abit). This board is a MSI K9N6, and it has SPDIF but not optical and for some reason not digital. But I did try a stereo adapter on the mini plug and a few others that didn"t really fit . The stereo adapter...

    Switching raid arrays?

montag, I'm not sure what you mean. I am able to have raid because of the IS7 mobo and a download from Intel. I believe it is the chipset ICH5R that allows raid but I'm ignorant about a card. Thanks for your interest.

    Switching raid arrays?

I currently have a raid o with two max 120 GB w/a WD 30 GB back up. One drive (not sure which one) is starting to whine on boot. Getting a little nervous. Can I change from R 0 to R 1 and if so how. Also can this be done without lose of data? Win xp pro 1 GB ram pent 4 2.4 nvidia gf...

Have questions about RAID 0, NTFS, and cluster size etc.

Thanks stevennoland and Smilin, your answers were right on and you have restored my faith in Anandtech. I guess I was just being impatient. I have seen the same discredits being givin to RAID 0, but I have read many user letters that swear to its benifits and I guess I'll go with the people...

Have questions about RAID 0, NTFS, and cluster size etc.

Thanks for answering fencer, that is better than the others did anyway. I guess you are right, I'll have to go to another Forum, I guess I was foolish to think I could find these answers at Anandtech.

Have questions about RAID 0, NTFS, and cluster size etc.

I am about ready to install win xp on a new RAID 0 array for the first time and more than a little nervous. If someone could try and answer some or all of the following it would really help, the nerves anyway. 1. I have heard that you must go thru a lengthy process involving installing...
