    Yeah, I have checked BIOS settings. It actually doesn't specify COM port #, only physical COM port and resource mappings. In other words, I can set up "communications port 1" in the BIOS to Input/Output range 03E8-03EF and IRQ 4, but it could still map to COM3 in Windows. Same as it should...

    Right, IRQ's are not really my issue though. I'm trying to map an external or internal modem to COM ports other than 1-4, specifically 5-8. Generally the IRQ mappings for COM ports are within a standard range for even and odd ports, and for instance the same address can be used for COM2 as COM4...
