I have the same problem with my SH6. Mine will boot and run fine but with my memory clock set to 133 mhz (PC-133 Infinion, I cannot enter the bios without clearing the cmos......Its a pain and I guess if they don't come up with a fix, or I figure it out, I'll be sending it back.
Two of our machines are clean installs of ME.....the other is my sons. It started as a 9 gig Seagate on a BH6 with a Celly 450a with a clean install of SE. Then it was upgraded to ME over SE. Next the drive was replaced by a Quantum 30 gig, we imaged the Seagate to the Quantum. Finally the BH6...
When SE came out, the general consensus was that 98 regular was better. Now we have the same situation with ME, only people are saying now that SE is better. What that means I am not sure, but I installed and worked with SE when people were crying about it, and now I am using ME. I have 3...
I have 2 128meg sticks of their RAM and no complaints, running cas2 at 133 on a KT7. The chips are LD which I still know very little about, but whoever they are the RAM is good. Especially at that price with free shipping.
I went back and checked my saved BIOS's and found only WT and WZ. So I guess my board came with WT and not UL. It appears that both UL and WZ are decent KT7 BIOS's, I have yet to see anyone speak in favor of the others.
I had PC-133 that I had to run at 100 (Host CLK) under UL. With WZ I was able to run it at 133 (HCLK+PCICLK) which did a lot to increase the memory bandwidth.......Hence my recommendation. I normally don't recommend upgrading the BIOS unless there is a decent payoff. For me the WZ paid off well.
I have both types, P3 on an 815 and a Duron on a Abit KT7.....If I were building another it would be a Duron or Thunderbird on .......... now thats the tough part. I have used the KT7 and the Asus A7V and liked them both. Many seem to like the MSI K7T. Also the new boards based on the Via KT133a...
Heres what I have. A P3 550E running on an SH6 with 256 megs of Infinion. The same stuff was on a P3V4X for 9 months and would run up to 814mhz with lower RAM settings and about a .1volt increase.
Got the SH6 and since first boot here are the oddities I have encountered.
1) board will not...
I think the setting you are looking for is under CMOS SETUP UTILITY, at least that is where it is on my board. If not you might want to get the latest BIOS WV at
abitftp
That may clear things up for you.
Get the beta BIOS WZ from
ftp://ftp.leo.org/pub/comp/general/devices/abit/
install it and expect a lot of your memory related problems to be cured.....It worked for me.
I installed the WZ on a new KT7 700 Duron at 900 1.65v and saw a big difference in the way I could set up the memory. Before I had to run the 256megs of PC133 at 100mhz or it would act flaky.
Afterwards I could not only run it at 133 but at the faster settings. I set it to
Normal for the...
This is a very decent sound card as others have said. There is still support for it in at least 2 places that I know of. First there is
TurtleBeach
The latest drivers will install the card using only 1 IRQ, without SB emulation. I used these drivers 2 weeks ago in a Duron/A7V setup with no...
Check my reply in Home Networking Help. It can be done. Remove ICS from the SE machine if you have it installed, through add/remove programs. Set up sharing on the 2K machine. To configure the client I would think would have to be done, but perhaps not. If you need to configure it you could use...
