    Ok, so i reset all 3 (winsock, ipv4, ipv6) and still no internet. I also checked malware with malwarebytes, adwearcleaner, jrt, and then with the bitdefender rescue disc.

    Yes: Start > typed in "cmd" and ran it as an administrator, and I was in safe mode.

    I had two of those files: 1 was a backup, and the other was a version with just the loop-back address, so I booted into safe mode, deleted the 2nd mentioned file and renamed the backup file to hosts. (and yes, the backup file had all the text in it that was supposed to be there) :'( I still...

    Hey guys, I want to thank everyone for trying to help me! :cool: I have tried all of your tips, from downloading the suggested SW to find bad stuff, to resetting browsers - nothing has helped so far. Conclusion: demote that drive to the secondary in a new computer. I can't think of anything...

    Already gone there and brought things to a minimum at boot time. IPv4 and IPv6 were already in the Wireless Network Connection Properties. Should I take the check out of IPv6?

    I typed in the above IP address and got this as a name returned: lax17s02-in-f8.1e100.net when I typed in www.yahoo.com, I got this: Server: dnsr1.sbcglobal.net Address: 68.94.156.1 In the non-authoritative answer section I got this: Name: fd-fp3wg1.b.yahoo.com Addresses: 2 IPv6 and 2 IPv4.

    Ok, did all four utilities, got rid of several things in the registry, but still, the internet is not accessible.
