Mine was the same problem with the HD sound driver (can't uninstall the faulty driver). That was the 1st problem I had by letting windows autodetect and installing a driver on it's own- which by the way must have happened thru microsoft updates; because I still had a question mark and "unknown...

That's what's nutz! The driver is installed correct. (no bangs in device manager), but in control panel under sounds it shows: "No audio device present". There is also no speaker in the task bar. (obviously) Is there a proper order to installing the drivers for the 1st time? J

I have a sound issue too. The demo under the Realtek menu works but not anything else, including no annoying Windows welcome screen sound. No bangs in the device mngr. Any ideas? J

The stepping on the Opteron 148 is a: OSA148DAA5BN CABYE 0540FPBW Maybe one of the best batches of cpus in history! An FX-60+ chip at a $1000 cheaper! ;)
