computer, Yes, it was me that thought something was wrong with the p4p. I was just refering to the i865 chip by MCH (Main Controller Hub). I'll take the heatsink off and check the mating surfaces. I'm guessing that poor heat transfer around the "Northbridge" is causing the high mobo temps. Just...

jhites, I wasn't sure about removing the heatsink because of the warranty, but what you said makes sense, they probably don't have the time to remove components. Well, when I tested the board on the box, room temp was around 22c, so I don't think it's an air flow problem. Just a guess!

Well, at first I tested it before installing into the case, so I thought that it wasn't getting any air flow sitting on the box. BTW, the P4P800-SE does not have a backplate for the cpu heatsink :| The heatsink on the i865 feels a lot hotter than the i875. I'm pretty sure it's not a false...

Everything felt fine, except for the MCH sink; I guess glueing a fan on the sink like John did would help, but the p4c has the same sink and stays at 31c  I even tried the MSI fx5700 on it, the card from the p4c, instead of the nVidia Riva TNT2 that I always use to test new builds...

And that's the reason why I want to rma this board. The cpu temp is always higher than the mobo IME. There has to be something wrong with the board. I'll remove it from the case and do a visual. Thanks for the help, going to sleep now.

I'm using the stuff that came with the SP-94, not sure what Thermalright is using. Those are temp readings in BIOS monitor. I just let it sit for a half hour in setup and mobo temps is 39c, cpu is 35c.

I'm thinking about rma-ing the p4p800-se, don't like it running at 40c. I'll try testing it again at idle.

WTF? Is everything besides the bios settings back to normal now? BTW, just got back my replacement 2.8C from Intel and you guessed it, it's a %*&!ing SL6WT China chip again :( I rma-ed mine due to random reboots at 236fsb, err, I mean default settings ;) computer, you're talking about...

jhites, I'm more concerned with the motherboard temperature issue, it's 40c at idle. The p4c mobo was around 30c with stock cooling; I'm not worried about the cpu running at that temp, but isn't 40c too high for the mobo even at full load?

Not having any bios config problems nor raid issues. Just wondering if anyone is overclocking the SE. On the P4C, I can oc 10MHz more than on this mobo. Also not sure if 40C is too high for mobo temp; the P4C is about 10C cooler.

Anyone here still running the oem hsf? Just wondering what the mobo and cpu temps are. I'm running the sp-94 on my P4C, but tried the stock cooling on the P4P800-SE and temps are around 40C. Don't like the SE board at all; the 2.8Costa that was doing 249fsb on the P4C gets errors at 239 on...

Is anyone here running the p4p800-se? Just wondering if I should rma or exchange for the p4p800-deluxe? Look 3 posts up for the issues I'm having with the SE. Need your 2 cents :D

Just got the p4p800se and tried a 2.8c that ran at 246 fsb 1:1 on my p4c800e deluxe, and am having errors in Memtest at 239 fsb on this board. I'm using the same ram, 2x512 OCZ 3700 Gold, on both. Also, the MB temp is about 10C higher on the p4p (40C). Not familiar with this board, is anyone...

computer, I'm using 2.8c, but still 3.4 is not bad. Here is the perfect scenario: Rma China chip and ask, beg, or plead Intel for a Malay. Contact OCZ to rma pc3700 and order pc4000 gold (depending on price). Use Costa and 3700 on p4p at 233 - stock cooling. Use new chip and 4000 on my p4c...
