Lower end "reliable" desktop hardware build help please

I want to thank everyone for their input. After considering all the input from everyone, I went with the Intel option. I felt I would be happier with a no-compromises solution, which the AMD option wouldn't be able to quite do. (I REALLY wish AMD was more competitive feature/performance wise)...

Lower end "reliable" desktop hardware build help please

As far as that mobo - It provides all my needs and wants (future proof flexibility) while coming from a company whose reliability I trust. (DisplayPort is nice because it can transmit audio like HDMI and works with my current monitor) I know the mobo shop is closing, but I trust it to not fail...

My desktop class Windows 2003 Server 5 years on

I wanted to share my experiences with my desktop class server that I've had for over 5 years. I figured anyone interested in knowing if the general design works could at least find an example. My server was built in 2007 (http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=71185 ) since I had a...

Lower end "reliable" desktop hardware build help please

Thanks ElFenix. lol The fans are 80s. I was not thinking when I put this in. And also for the point on the RAM! I messed up.

Lower end "reliable" desktop hardware build help please

Plans: Looking to upgrade the "core" of an old 939 system I have. (mobo, memory, ram) (it CANNOT play a bluray) Its been a long time since I cared to build a PC. So I'm out of the loop on the latest "best of". I'm not poor or cheap, just trying not to waste money while making sure the...

    Boot Issues

B, Wow, they allow one character aliases? Well anyway...sometimes memory doesn't work as idealistically as we'd like. Perhaps you are having issues with using 4 sticks of memory as some users report with various boards/chipsets. The only solution that generally helps is to lower the clock...

GA-X38-DQ6 will not boot with USB device connected

just great! Just after I buy the same mobo and CPU I see this! ;) I've heard of one report of issues with 4 sticks of memory. Perhaps downclocking them would resolve it? I hope...for your sake and mine... the only other thing I can put out there is that USB is a great way to fry a mobo -...

    Password Management

I'm shocked! No one mentioned Password Safe by Bruce Schneier (http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/) Personally I use KeePass, but Password Safe has cross-platform going for it, which some deem a requirement.

    Gigabyte P35-DS3P

Not sure if cross linking is OK but I resolved a similar issue on Windows 2003 (http://forums.anandtech.com/me...2081245&enterthread=y)

Windows 2003 and P35 chipset works as a server

I did finally get audio working. Some complex install directions. (http://geekswithblogs.net/lori.../11/81540.aspx#131102) About halfway down the comments was the solution that worked for me. This allowed the RealTek software to play audio, but not anything builtin to the OS (incl WMP). I...

Windows 2003 and P35 chipset works as a server

I'm trying to use the onboard, to no avail. As a server sound isn't important, but I'd love to know it can work with 2003. Tried more driver install variations after the last post without luck. Reviewed the BIOS, nada.

Windows 2003 and P35 chipset works as a server

BenchZowner, I did start the Windows Audio service previously, with no change. re-installing the drivers seems to have had no impact. I found I had turned on unsigned driver protection, but that is now disabled. I get a generic error during driver install. I've tried changing lots of stuff...

Windows 2003 and P35 chipset works as a server

After getting little response regarding running Windows 2003 on various desktop chipsets, I took a plunge (against public guidance from Intel) and found that Windows 2003 seems to run fine on the P35 chipset. I wanted to post to share my experience. Some will say that this design is a...

Windows server 2003 and 975x motherboards?

Keitero, thanks for the response. For the chipset drivers - were they xp or 2003 drivers? Do you have any "yellow bangs" in Device Manager?

Windows server 2003 and 975x motherboards?

NXIL, thanks again for all the effort. I'm trying to avoid getting a Xeon based system because it becomes a separate support nightmare for me. I have to spend more on all the components, just for a low end server. Thats BS. As for Intel's response...that what I would expect from them...
