Anyone know how complicated this would be? From the googling I've done, it looks like the HD is 'non-user servicable', looks like I'll have to remove the screen and keyboard. I can't find the toshiba service manuals for this model anywhere - only the user guides. I'm comfortable w/desktops...

If he's not going to be running any 3D or handling video, he'd probably be fine finding an older used mac. We've got art directors here running quark, pshop, illustrator, etc. at print resolutions on G4 450s. Just don't skimp on the RAM. He may be able to pick up a used 1GHz for a good price...
