How much does getting a minor in something help?

That's pure B.S. (no pun intended)! A minor will help a ton, depending on what you want to do, of course. If you are thinking of working after graduation, then a minor will certainly come in handy and will look attractive on the resume. If you, for example, plan on pursuing a career in finance...

    just got a job

Congrats man! To all of those wondering about the insane hours - yes, it's true that you'll have to work hard the first two years. However, most of the stories you hear are drastically overstated. Investment Banking tends to underpay in the short run, but really, really overpay in the long run...

    just got a job

What firm? I actually have an I-Banking offer from a bulge bracket firm, and don't expect to work more than 90 hours per week. It appears that I'll be getting a bigger salary and bigger bonuses to start.

    ATOT NYC Commuters

Wall Street is ridiculously close, and if I were you, I'd just take a cab. They'll probably reimburse you for travel anyway, and it's not like the cost is going to be more than $5 or $6. Just cab it, it's easier and faster, and you don't want to show up late to an interview.

    ftp, whats a good program?

For some reason or other, I've always found SmartFTP to be the easiest and best to use, and it has never failed me a single time. I tried using Filezilla a couple times in the past, but it never worked consistently (at least back then).

I hate babysitting the dr*nk girlfriend

wtf? Pilsner Urquell is the original pilsner, and is really anything but cheap: I usually see it sold for $7 or $8 per six pack. You can get much cheaper beer to get rocked off of if you're low on money. And if you didn't think it was all that great, then you could've gotten a lot of really good...

    The Ultimate Anandtech Poll

Sweet! I've always wanted to know how many gay midgets from Louisiana with a Ph.D degree who also happened to get laid for the first time after the age of 25 perused these forums.

    Need an umbrella

Haha , I purchased the same kind at my college bookstore in PA as well. It's a rather massive 4 feet across and the handle is made out of pretty heavy wood. In general, you should get an umbrella has has one of those pointy tips at the top, has a handle made out of some heavy...

    Good (cheap) tequila for margaritas

I wouldn't be throwing Don Julio or Tres Generaciones or Herradurra into a margharita if I were you. After a few drinks, no one is going to be tell whether you used $200 Herradura or the much cheaper Jose Cuervo or Sauza, so go for the cheap stuff. Unless, of course, this is a one on one...

    Morgan Stanley reject

Exactly. Let's say you're GPA is like a 3.1. If further down on your resume you reveal that you're the President of the undergraduate student body, have played on a sports team or two, are involved in community service and other extracurriculars, have started a venture, etc., and have...

    Morgan Stanley reject

I was primarily referring to 1st round recruiting, but even during the 2nd and final rounds, a lot of firms will have ball park figures of how many individuals they want to take from each school. You're only really competing against other schools if you're interviewing with the smaller firms who...

    Morgan Stanley reject

Oh man, reading this entire thread definitely brings back fond memories of all the recruiting insanity that goes on at my school from January 10th till about mid February. A lot of you guys go to pretty kick ass schools, but needless to say, none of you (i dont think) have had the "pleasure" of...

Now THESE are good beers... *PIC*

Hoegaarden is by far my favorite Belgian beer. I recently had Leffe Blonde for the first time and it's awesomely good as well, though a tad sweet.

    Some College/Major Advice Please

#2 -> Of the two, get a C.S. degree. Don't even think about I.S. as that will not look nearly as attractive to employers and doesn't lend itself to further post-graduate study should you choose that route. #1 -> I would honestly urge you to go to Cornell over Carnegie Mellon for a plethora of...

To all of you who made fun of me for my GMAT questions

Ummm, I beg to differ. I know plenty of Wharton, Harvard, Chicago, and Columbia MBAs that are much better off than they were pre-MBA. Granted, it depends largely on what school you attend, but the likelihood of your financial situation improving after graduation is quite good (assuming that you...
