Thermal cycling will effect your drive's lifetime more than operating temp. If your rig is on all the time feel free to let your drives run warmer (don't worry about cooling as much). If you turn your rig on and off a lot you want your drives to run cooler. Overall cooler is better, but I've...

Truthfully I have no idea what the memory speed is supposed to be. Gainward says that the card is good for 440MHz core and 900MHz memory (which would indicate 2.2ns, but the default is 2.35ns (850Mhz)). So far I have inched my way up to 450MHz core and 900 MHz memory with things running rock solid.

I have about the same setup. When I reinstalled XP: I removed all unnecesary hardware (winfast 2000xp, soundcard, USB devices, card readers, etc), then installed XP, patches, and basic drivers. Then I installed hardware and drivers one piece at a time.
